Hi all, Annie Rae here.  I haven't posted in quite a while.  I'm sure this topic has been posted before but I was just wondering if anyone had done a colon cleanse and if it had affected any of the meds you take.

I have sooo much trouble with constipation and diarreah off and on.  I really don't think I have IBS but I'm not sure.  I am going to get some fiber and see if that helps, but wanted to do the cleanse first.

Any experiences or comments woud be appreciated.  How well it worked, would you do it again and did it make you feel better?

Thank you  :-)

Hi AnnieRae,

This is a good question to bring up.  My GI doctor told me to NEVER get a colon cleanse done.  It will upset the flora in our systems.  Like you mentioned, it will upset the meds we take too.  It can also send us into a major flare up.

If you're having bowel issues, it's crucial for you to see a GI (gastrointestinal doctor) first.  Let him/her tell you what to do, and take.  Don't do a cleanse without talking to a specialist, or even your pcp.  It can be dangerous.

Take care,
Ginny

My friend's sister nearly died from a colon cleanse. She had to be hospitalized. I'd make sure to do more research before having one done. Scarey, really.

Patty's right.  If there is any bacteria or infection at all in the colon, it will be pushed up into your bowels and intestines.  It can be an absolute nightmare.  Please don't do this!

I paid 50 bucks for a colon cleanse from GNC. The only thing I noticed different was I had 50 bucks less than I had before. I wouldn't say that they were all that way but the one I got was very disappointing.

I'm glad this question has been brought up, I saw something on TV about it and thought about doing it myself. The so called "doctor" that was promoting it said constipation caused a lot of problems and the cleanse could cure all sorts of things. I didn't realize it could be harmful to us.. not that I really wanted to do the cleanse anyway nono

Thank you all for responding.

I would never do anything without consulting my PCP or Rheumy.  But it's nice to know what your  thoughts are as I can relate to a lot of the members on this forum.

It's so hard for others to understand the way we feel, and a lot of people think we can do whatever they can.  Not so.

I love reading all the posts.  Thanks again and keep smiling.   Annie Rae  yeah
