I just read the posts in the "I am new and scared" post about people having numbness in their hands.

I have that almost every night...but I too, thought I was just sleeping wrong.

What is the numbness about?

Thanks
~Kim

Hi Kim,
Is the numbness when you are sleeping? Carpel tunnel syndrome can cause this. Also poor circulation when you sleep with your hands above your head. Mine use to go to sleep alot and I always had my hands above my head. Now I try my best to sleep with my arms down lower. It's much better now.
You should mention this to your doctor anyway to be on the safe side. I hope this gets better for you. Keep us updated and take care. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Prednisone can also affect cranial nerves that can cause numbness in you arms/hands. I've had it too. Judy

I have numbness in my hands, and sometimes my feet, during the day at times. I thought this might be part of the Raynaud's. I'm not on prednisone. Does anyone else get numbness during the day?

Hi! Everyone,

I have CNS Lupus and my nerves themselves become inflammed, with the swelling causing the nerve to get bigger, and then the carpel tunnel in our wrists, (which I think is like a channel to wrap around the nerve) gets tight, and then we feel numbness and tingling. I have found a wrist brace, the kind that has a place for your thumb, when I sleep, is really helpful. sue p.s. I am living on 5mg of prednisone, thank God! It helps so much, keeps me walking and functioning so I can work.

God knows, even if I don't....

Great topic.

I always thought my numbness and tingling had to do with inflammation. That swelling can pinch blood vessels and nerves. I'm not actually sure where it comes from, but sleep position is essential for me.

Harmony . . . I do get numbness during the day. When I am flaring, I will get it in my feet after a short walk . .. or in my arms or legs from staying in one position too long (varies from a few minutes to 20 minutes). But, definitely related to flares . . . although I still have 'some' numbness and tingling even when I'm feeling well.

Blessings!

Mine is when I'm sleeping.  I try to go to bed with my hands sort of laying on my tummy.  Of course - with my "BFF prednisone" - that is becoming harder and harder!  lol  The numbness doesn't seem to bother me during the day.

I get it too. I have it during the day and at night. But it's in several different spots on my body. mostly from my waist down. I use a heating pad on the bottom of my back and it seems to help alot.
