It gives me "racing brain" even at low dosages. I'd be up all night if I took it at night!!

With 10mg in the morning I still have to take a sleep aid at night...

Hi Jessie,
I would keep taking it in the morning, like Lynnwood said, it will keep you up taking it at night.

You should take steroids as early in the morning as possible because that is when your endogenous(in your body) levels of cortisol are most lacking of it. At night would be counterproductive and cause you to becaome a raving lunatic cleaning the cracks betweent he bathroom tiles with a toothbrush all night long(yes I have done this ok!)

Hi Jesserose,

I split my prednisone dose.  I take 5mg in the morning, and then 3.5 at night.  It's okay to split the dose!  It might help you to sleep better if you take less at night.  When I was on 40mg, my rheumy had me split it 20/20.  Made sleeping and all the jitters, etc, much easier to deal with.

When I first started my prednisone my rheumy had me split it like Ginny does and it worked okay except that my second dose did keep me up at night. Now I take it all in the morning, but like Lynnwood I still need a sleep aid.

Hi Jessie Rose:

I've had a total of six spinal taps done in the past. They aren't the greatest thing to have done but it's not been the worse thing I've gone through. Though, I've been through a lot of horrible tests. The important thing is to make sure you lay flat after your spinal tap and that you don't continue to leak spinal fluid out or you'll need a blood patch to stop it. It's not pleasant but it will provide good information to your doctors.

Hope you do alright with it and I'm wishing you the best.

Take care,
Barbara

I have never been quite sure what a blood patch is -- this time I looked it up.

wiki.noblood.org/Epidural_Blood_Patch

I believe I'd be asking the person doing the spinal tap how often they do them and when the last time was. I wouldn't want to be in the initial few for someone in the learning stages!

Good luck, I'm sure it'll turn out fine.

Hi -

i am a new member and was reading about your prednisone timing.

i feel much better if i take my dose split 4 times a day or 3 times a day. i was on 70mg a day so i took 20 with breakfast, 30 at lunch, and 20 with dinner. of course i needed ambien to get to sleep but this kept the blood levels normal through the day.

today i am on 20 mg a day and i will be spliting it 4 times. 5 with breakfast, 5 around 1200, 5 around 4pm and 5 around 8pm.

maybe try it and see what you feel like -
