I could slap a doctor right now. I may not have gotten the jerk when I went to MFM but I did get an idiot. I drink a lot of fluid normally and with pregnancy that increases. I am at around 2 gallons a day with gatoraide being used to keep it there instead of much higher. Well, the MFM doc said I was drinking too much and that it was causing the fluid retention and making the pre-eclampsia worse than it needed to be. Yesterday I tried reducing by 1/2 gallon. HUGE mistake. I ended up with an IV last night for contrations and orders from the regular OB office to drink as much fluids as I need to so long as it doesn't make me act drunk. I have residual pain in my lower stomach from how hard the contractions were. Luckily it caused no changes in my cervix so it wasn't ruled preterm labor just a warning to drink as much fluids as my body says I need.
I have always needed more fluids than most normal people. We have just figured it was part of my lupus or one of the other AI diseases. Do any of you find you drink a gallon or more of water a day? Just wondering how weird I am for even the lupus set.

Hi Redrose
I'm so sorry you are having problems, but I am glad you didn't go into labor. Since I was diagnosed, I am thirsty most of the time....I think I drink at least a gallon of fluids a day (water, tea, juice, ginger ale on bad days) My glass of choice is a quart jar with a handle so I can hang on to it ( I've broken all our glass drinking glasses) and I know I fill it at least 4 times a day.
I hope you have a safe remainder to your pregnancy. I'm praying for you and your baby.

I'm sure that experience was awful! I'm also glad you didn't go into labor. I stay thirsty all the time as well but, I don't drink as much as I should. I sip on something all the time till I go to bed.
Hang in there and keep us updated. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
