The latest bout of inflammation started Friday night, with a pounding headache coming from my neck area.  This spread all the way down my spine, with throbbing toothache like pain in my lower back, and my ears have been ringing like crazy! Saturday was a miserable and horrible day for me.  Sunday I finally went to the ER, after telling myself I would not go... (I hate that place).  The doctor asked me what I wanted him to do for me... I said I wanted to make sure that the fact that my entire spine was inflamed was not something serious going on... DUH!  I said maybe some bloodwork?  Hes like, well what type of bloodwork would you like for me to order?  Im like, well maybe a CBC, CMP, Sed rate?  He ordered those and they came back ok, with SED slightly elevated.  One shot of Toradol later, Im back at home.  Gotta love the ER docs. mad
Im still trying to work, and the pain is a little better, but its not gone entirely.  I am getting shooting pains down my arms into my fingers, and also down my legs from the swelling.  I can feel the swelling in my spine, and it seems to be worse at the top and bottom.  Last night I cryed and prayed, and got a little relief and was able to sleep.
I had a regular neurology appt today and he seems very concerned.  He started me on Celebrex and wants to see me again in four weeks.

So, any of you ever have spinal inflammation?  My flares usually involve major fatigue, flu like symptoms, but this is over the top.  Could this just be a bad flare?

Thanks so much...

Actually spinal inflammation is half the reason I use enbrel. The pain is horrible. My rheumy said it doesn't appear to be the lupus or the RA so we have no clue why I have chronic spinal inflammation. Only that the pain it causes is enough that I would rather endure months of natural childbirth than this.

((( Victoria )))) I am so sorry you are feeling so badly. ER docs are so wonderful aren't they? I recently took my daughter to the Urgent care which kinda went like your visit, with the doctor acting like he didn't know what to do. I sure hope the doctors find out what is causing this inflammation and pain. (((hugs)))

I just have to warn you as I know we have SO many similar things going on with our lupus and digestive problems, I tried Celebrex and was not able to tolerate it AT ALL. I took it at night with my other meds and woke in the early morning with stabbing pains in my stomach. It was bad enough I couldn't go to work. Not knowing exactly what the problem was I took it a second night and the same thing happened. My grandmother was on it for months and ended up with a bleeding ulcer. Just be careful and pay very close to attention to how it makes you feel. I know it works terrific for some people, I just felt like I should warn you of my experience.

Take care and keep us updated on how you are doing. Hugs and luv

You might want something like prilosec or nexium to help with the stomach. I miss vioxx so much.

((((Victoria)))). Your ER visit sounded identical to my last one several years ago. I got the exact same questions - both the nurse and doctor asked what I wanted from them.

I'm sorry your are having so much pain and I hope you aren't headed for a big flare. Please take care of yourself.
