Hi Everyone,
I was really hoping to get some answers and relief today from this new eye doctor. He says my eye problems are from Fibro and there's nothing that will make them better unless there's a cure found for fibro!! I'm so frustrated and down right now! I can't keep asking my family to take me everywhere I need to go and I will probably have to give up my part-time job soon with the bright spring sun and heat. My eyes just can't take much light and air.
I will be hybernating now I guess until something changes. I have hope and faith, so I'm not giving up! I just needed to vent a bit, sorry. I posted a note in the fibro forum too. Maybe someone there will have some good suggestions for me.
You all take care and tks for reading my vent.... :-) . You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

OH my goodness!!! I didn't realize that fibro could cause eye issues. But, even if it does . . . how can a doctor determine that the fibro is the cause confused

Your head must be swimming!! (((((((((( Babs ))))))))))) So sorry you are dealing with SO much right now (still???). You always have such a great attitude . . . but even so . . . life sure stinks sometimes.

Sending you hugs, prayers and a full pot of hot tea!!

Blessings!

Oh Bab's that has to totally depressing. Bless your heart! I can't believe doctors do that. Just give you absolutely no hope at all. I think you should get a second opinion and a third until you get some one who is agreesive enough to not just give up. So I'm assuming that the surgery is out of the question as far as he is concerned? I hope the fibro section can give you some ideas. I don't blame you a bit for being frustrated and depressed.
I'm praying for you sweetie

Stacie, Rosie and Carol,
Thank you all for your wonderful support and kindness. You are all amazing!
Stacie, You are so sweet sis. I had no idea fibro could affect the eyes like this either. Thank you for the thoughts and prayers. I will be fine, just have to vent a bit.
Rosie, I also wondered how he could tell it was fibro causing the problem but, I was so upset when he said it won't get any better, my mind went blank. Tks sis for the hugs, prayers and pot of tea. I will start on the tea right now!
Carol, Thank you for the prayers sweetie! I probably will go for a third opinion if I can get either my rheumy or Internal medicine doc to refer me to someone else. This guy is suppose to be top notch for this area....hmmm. As far as the surgery, he said my tear ducts were fine. I did remember to ask him that...lol.
Thank you all again and you are all in my thoughts and prayers as well.

I'm so sorry to hear that this doctor didn't come up with a better answer and some sort of solution for you. I have a hard time understanding how fibro could be doing it -- it he's an eye dr not a fibro dr how would he know either??!

Keep looking - there should be a more satisfying answer out there somewhere. It's SO miserable when the news takes time to absorb -- the right questions pop into my mind a couple weeks later, when the drs are far beyond my reach.

My thoughts are with you,

I have heard of lupus and MS affecting the eyes, but never heard of fibro affecting the eyes. It sounds like he was clueless and decided to blame the one disease you have that is still the least understood. What about the sjogrens? I mean I know it has some affect on the eyes in many people. I am sorry, but I find it hard to believe he is so good when he blamed the fibro for your vision problems.

Tks Lynn and Redrose,
I have been doing some research on fibro. I never really looked at it very close because my doctors didn't talk about it much since it is a secondary disease. I didn't realize how many symptoms are related to fibro....wow. All these diseases are so much alike in symptoms making it very hard to tell what disease is causing what symptom. I will keep searching for the right answers and relief.
Thank you both for your support and help. I hope you are doing okay. Take care.

My doc recommended a retinologist; they are more highly specialized. I haven't seen one yet. But maybe you should try to see one. Judy

That's a pretty good article redrose. Babs, what kind of eye problems are you having? I'm with Lynnwood and would keep looking till I found an opthalmologist who can help you or at least explain what's going on. I have diplopia, or double vision, and I can't see at all without glasses so the doc prescribes prisms for my glasses. Remember when we were kids and we used to cross our eyes? That's what it's like so I can't function at all without prisms. I never associated the problem with fibro. I see a neuro opthalmologist who claims it's a muscle problem. But he doesn't know what the muscle problem is.

I hope you get your problem resolved Babs.

I have had muscle problems with my eyes since I was very little. My eye muscles are very weak, thus eye strain is a constant problem. I cannot tolerate prism- we tried a few times but 5 minutes in prism and I have the worst migraine and my eyes hurt for a week. It makes my eyes focus funny- the opthamologist's words not mine- and makes it so seeing through glasses is no where near as clear as contacts. I need an eye exam but have to wait until 6 weeks after the baby comes.

Tks Everyone,
Judy, I will have to ask my doc about a Retinologist, tks for the suggestion. I'm willing to do anything to get this under control.
Pat, my symptoms are: very dry eyes, they are very light sensitive, blurred vision, senstive to any kind of air and at times they sting, burn and water bad. I'm having a really hard time driving during the day and doing my job.
I called my rheumy's office earlier and left a message about what that opthamologist said yesterday letting her know how frustrated I am. Hopefully, she will look further into this and have someone call me back soon. Thank you all so much for your help and support. Take care and you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Sounds like the typical Sjogren's eye!  I use the Restasis eye drops and they have helped a lot.  I had all your symptoms plus I would wake up in the mornings with crusty (nice eh?!) eyes.  My opthamologist has Sjogren's too so he knew right off what was wrong.  I hope you find one that will help you!

Hi Jeannie,
How long did it take for you to get relief? I've been using Restasis and artificial tears for 3 months now. My rheumy and regular opthamologist said the symptoms were from Sjogren's too, but I haven't gotten any relief yet. I'm glad to hear yours are better. Maybe it will just take a little longer for mine to respond to the restasis. Tks for your help and take care.

It has taken about 5 months (my doc said the ususal is 6 months).  I still have times that it burns, so it isn't 100%, but definitely better.  He said even if it doesn't eliminate all the symptoms that it's still important to use it to protect the cornea.  I say give it some more time (like we haven't heard that a million times! tongue ).  The artificial tears helped for about 10 minutes so I don't even bother with them anymore.   I haven't been able to wear my contacts in over a year and glasses create a draft so understand where you are coming from.  I hope the Restasis kicks in soon.

I would also like to suggest trying evoxac if you have any driness in your nose or mouth too. Evoxac supposedly only works on dry mouth but I found my sinuses/nose were less dry and that the occassional bouts of dry eyes disappeared. I will go back on it as soon as the baby comes. It began working within 48 hours for me, and maybe it would help some with your eyes as well?
