Anyone here notice a sequence in flaring? I am noticing that last year when spring hit my allergies went insane. I do not respond to any of the allergy meds currently on the market ie. Zyrtec , Allegrea act. It seems that the Lupus flares right along with the seasons. Spring and Summer are the months I have a hard time with. When my allergies are bad the flares begin and then when the summer heat kicks in I have more problems especially if I need to be out in the sun. ( Sunscreen doesnt do a thing and yes I cover up )

I know why allergy flare ups and lupus flare ups go hand in hand- my allergist/immunologist told me that since allergies aggrivate the immune system they usually will cause worsening of lupus symptoms. The best way to handle this is to find some allergy meds that will work for you. I take singulair and benedryll.

Nice to know someone else doesn't get any help from sunscreen. I have tried many kinds but sunscreen still does not buy me more than 5 minutes outside before I get really sick.

I have tried Zyrtec, Claritin ( pure placebo ) , Benedryl makes me non functioning but works very well when I take 2, Allegra D any other ideas? I went to see the allergist and he tried me for shots. After the 6th tester injections my arm and fingers blew up and they had to keep the tourniquet on me and inject me with meds to alter the reaction. Dr. said I am not a candidate for allergy shots because I would have an anaphylactic reaction. I am open to other allergy help ideas. The steriods seem to help believe it or not. Thanks for the tip about the allergey response and Lupus I thought I was losing my mind ( whats left of it anyway lol ) . I also take 10 mgs of Singulair.

Sunscreen is joke for me. I am also darker skinned kind of olive . I wonder if that has anything to do with it? I have dark hair and that attracts the sun.

I was told flat out never get allergy shots because of the lupus. I would suggest you look into older medications for allergies and use benedryl at night. Singulair works for some people even though it is technically an allergy medication. I can't take zyrtec or Allegra (any version). Claritin doesn't work for me either. Sometimes the best medication isn't the newest or most popular which is what those you have been given are. There are many different meds you could try. I suggest getting your rheumy and allergist to work together.

I don't have much of a problem with allergies, but the heat in the spring and summer bring on my worst flares. I hybernate when its hot. It feels like summer is here in the south already during the day and its cool at night. I hope you get some relief soon. Take care and keep us updated. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm like Babs and find that the heat and humidity make me feel very sick and if I'm not really careful in the summer I can flare really easily. During the winter I hurt pretty bad when it gets really cold or when it's going to snow or ice. I think I'm a walking barometer.
