I am curious to know if any of you with Lupus have high titer Ro and La without Sjogrens disease.

Hi Chaya,
I'm not sure if the Ro and La are the same as Anti-SSA and Anti-SSB but those are very high for me and I do have Sjogrens. Hopefully, someone will come along soon to help you out. Take care.

Can I ask what your titers were? I had very high Ro and La and yes they are the same as anti ssa and anti ssb as Babs said. I do not have Sjogrens though and it seems most people with Ro and La have Sjogrens. Maybe mine are not as high as yours? My Ro was over 500 and my La was over 300. The Rhuemy told me mine were very high. High normal was 100.

I had a high Anti-ro (SSA) at 838 and a negative Anti-la (SSB). My doctor said it could be from lupus. Then about a year later I was dx with Sjogrens.

Hi Chaya,
My SSA is 391 and the SSB is 1023. That was over 2 months ago they have been climbing over the last year, especially the SSB.

You make my SSB look like a cake walk! You have Sjogrens?

OKKKKKKKKK disregard that question! I went back and looked at your sig and saw Sjogrens. Maybe the high titers of 1,000 indicate more the Sjogrens disease? Hell if I know. One day I might figure out the lab work for this disease.

Chaya,
These diseases and labs can be sooooo confusing for us all. We never know what to expect from day to day. I've had these diseases for a long time and I'm still trying to figure them out. Hang in there! Don't let it overwhelm you! You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I have a positive SSA( 889) but NO SYMPTOMS at all for Sjogrens.I was told you can get false positives with the SSA's if you have Lupus....My rheumatologist said that i may or may not develop Sjogrens in the future.

My daughter has a high ro and la and does not had sjogrens.  She's only 6 and has cutaneous lupus.  I'm so very new to learning about all of this, so in all honesty I don't know what it all means. Our rheumatologist said for now being she's so young that it could change.

Is the ro and la a factor of Sjogrens? I don't even know what that is?

Hi Jessie . . . Sjogrens (pronounced 'show-grins') can cause dry mouth, dry eyes, swollen glands and some other interesting fun stuff. Usually starts with the dry mouth and eyes.

You'll want to make sure that your daughter has very regular dental care. Dry mouth can cause rapid problems with the teeth . . .IF they aren't watched closely. If your daughter is on plaquenil, I'm assuming that she is seeing an ophthalmologist too. He should be watching for dry eyes.

Blessings!

I don't know if most rheumies would dx you with it based on the labs, though a lip biopsy is supposed to be one really definitive diagnosis. I have low ssa ssb but have sjogrens confirmed by biopsies, gallium scan, symptoms, etc. I meet all criteria and am helped by treatment. To look at a picture of a woman with severe sjogrens and looking at me, you can really see it. My neck is huge and cheeks.

One thing that might be worthwhile to find out is whether or not ssa, ssb actually cause sjogrens symptoms, or just happen to be there coincidentally in people with sjogrens. I found out at Mayo that sometimes that's the case with some lab values. They are indicators, but don't directly relate to the disease or whatever. I think they go up and down too.

Babs, wow, you are really up there!

I know that some antibodies like ds-dna and maybe also ssa, ssb can be caused by things like interferon therapy and liver disease. People with liver disease, especially hepatitis get a lupus like, sjogrens like syndrome and may not have antibodies but may develop them.

I have ss dna, but my rheumie says that value is useless as most people have those antibodies.
