WTH!?!?!?!?

I am getting soooooooooo sick of surprises!!
Anywho, I started noticing that my urine was getting frothy so I googled/yahoo searched and discovered that is a tell-tale sign something is wrong w/ my kidneys. what I didn't know that swelling of the ankles will soon follow.

So I call good old Dr. and he examined me.
told me the swelling of my ankles are caused by a arthiritis flare up ( lupus flare)
I kept saying no, this might be kidney issues alone w/ the frothy urine.....so he took a urine sample.
I get a call the next day....GUESS WHAT YALL!!!

I'm spilling protein in my urine!!!
hence the swelling & the froth!!!
( I knew that dr, but thanks for confirming it!!! eyes )
so I'm back on 20mgs of Pred & sulfasalazine & tramadol

What can I do now to ease the swelling or make it go away?
Meds: Prednisone - 5mgs ( 1mg x 5 )
Diclofenac sodium- 75mgs
Vitamins:  Vitamin B, C, and E

Hi Meeks,

Well, unfortunately, it's pretty common to have protein in our urine.  It's one of those lupus symptoms that seem to hit almost all of us.  If it isn't protein we're spilling, it's white blood cells (bacteria).  It sucks big time, but at least now you know what to look for next time (hopefully the next time won't be for a LONG time!)

ONe of the best things to do to ease the swelling is increase your prednisone - which you've done, and drink LOTS of water.  Sometimes being a little dehydrated can cause the protein spilling.  So make sure you're well hydrated all the time.  I think a few days of higher pred doses will make a huge difference for you.

Have a good weekend!

The condition is called proteinuria and is commonly treated with an ace inhibitor like lisinopril and a diuretic like lasix.  I had it and gained as much as 15 lbs of edema in a few days.

AS others have told you, elevate until the swelling goes down and sleep with your feet elevated as well.

This is usually a very treatable condition.

other than that, i've been sleeping w/ my feet & legs elevated for just under a week now. I just want things to go back to normal again. smurf

Meeks, just make sure you get back sometime to have your urine tested again. If you are still spilling protein, the doc may want to do a 24 hour urine test. I went through a few months where I was spilling protein and prednisone helped me, so I hope it also takes care of things for you too.

Take care and keep us updated.
