How long have you been on 100mg?  It's all going to depend on how long you've been at that dose.  I'd call or fax your rheumy about it before seeing her.  Don't taper down until you get the okay and instructions from her.  NOT from us.  We're not doctors.  We can't tell you how to do this.

Glad to hear that your platelets are up!  That is great news!

Keep us posted,

Don't taper on your own....check with your doctor first.  Tapering from that level will probably take some time and that assumes you have no problems on the way down.

My initial tapers were about 10mg per MONTH from 60 to 40mg, 5mg per month to 20mb, 2.5mg per 2 months to 10mg and then 1mg per 2 months to 5 where I am currently.

Tapering too fast can cause all sorts of problems, some of them serious.  There is a difference of opinion about how fast to taper but SLOWLY is always best unless there are some other urgent reasons to taper more rapidly.  Just wanting to get off is not an urgent reason.  You can seriously disrupt your body and immune system by tapering too rapidly.

Hope your ivig treatments work for you and you can eventually taper off prednisone.  The impact of ivig does wear off and if you have no other controlling meds when you taper prednisone there will be nothing controlling your immune system and preventing future flares.

Hi Justonce, Hey that's great that your labs are coming up! Wow that's a lot of steroids though. I agree with the rest of the group. I know how bad you want to go down on the pred. but please do it the way the doctor says or you will be in worse shape. Your body needs to adjust to lower levels.

I know you hate to hear it, but your best bet is to follow your doctors orders and take the dosage prescribed. I know it sucks, but it's better than the alternative. Hang in there and try to be patient.

Hmm...it seems we all (me included) come to healing well occassionally looking for an excuse not to do what our doctors tell us to do.
What really annoys me is when it proves out that my doctor was right to begin with and I did not follow her advice and made myself suffer as a result.
Am I the only one who had to learn this lesson more than once?
