I went to have my eye exam today he told me I have cataract in my left eye which it is not bad enough to do anything yet their going to keep and watch on it, also they said my peripheral  sight is differentail. I'm 51 does anybody else have something like this. He told me due to plaquenil and the lupus is mostly the cause. I've been on it for 23 yrs.  I also have to go for a sleep test.... The  doc. told me yesterday, do you really sleep? I'm not sure if I will be able to sleep. Debbie

"peripheral sight is differential" -- What? Different from what? I have no idea what this means.

When on plaquenil, we are supposed to have our peripheral vision checked at least once a year -- *IF* you are going to have eye trouble associated w/plaquenil, this is where it first shows up -- checking once a year gives you time to get off plaquenil before permanent damage is done.

I haven't heard of Lupus itself causing any kind of peripheral vision or cataract problems -- although various inflammations of the eye can cause blurry or variable sight -- that seems to be fairly common.

Sleep tests...ARG! Mine was a HUGE waste of money, and somehow it ended up coming out of my own pocket, which was so NOT the plan!

Cheers,

Hi Debbie,

How much prednisone are you on, and how long have you been on it?

I had prednisone induced cataracts in both eyes early in my diagnosis.  When I was on 40mg of pred daily.  I was on that for about 6 months when the cataracts came.  As soon as I tapered down on the pred, the cataracts went away.

Just wanted to throw that into the mix, just in case it applies to you!
