Hey Everyone I was just wondering if any one had tried any certain diets with lupus? I have mild SLE. I still am not sure of why I got this. Im going to try to eliminate dairy from my diet for about a week and a half to see if I have any changes. I wanna try this because I am a dairy fanatic! lol. When I was younger I used to drink a lot of milk every night... chocolate milk in specific. And Id have a big bowl of ice cream every night and my favorite snack was string cheese. So Im just going to test this out.. of coarse with permission. I decided to experiment this because I know hormones are a big deal in lupus.. and milk kinda deals with that. Well Its time for me to try and beat this lupus somehow! and Im going to figure it out. I have a long life to live! lol.

Hey girl!!

I've actually heard that dairy is beneficial in weight loss!  It's the calcium.  The fact that you're 15 years old makes it so very important that you get enough of that calcium for your bone strength too.  You might benefit from talking to a dietitian. Even talking to your rheumatologist about this would be helpful.

I've tried diets, but they don't work.  For me, it's the prednisone that is making me fat!  I don't overeat, and I eat good wholesome foods.  It's the stupid prednisone that is such a hard thing to lose weight on.  Are you taking prednisone?

Maybe some others can give both of us more encouragement on a good diet plan!

Hi there,

I'm not sure if you are trying to figure out if dairy 'caused' the lupus? It didn't. Lupus is not caused by anything we do. Its not really clear what causes it . . . although it 'can' be genetic.

Some people do find food TRIGGERS. Foods that will make symptoms worse. There is a topic on the board right now about gluten. So you really might benefit from playing with your diet to see if you find some of the common food issues. You certainly could be lactose intolerant . . . or the hormones in the milk could be causing some trouble for you.

Some of us have had some improvement limiting sugar and artificial sweeteners. The sugar can cause inflammation and we certainly don't need more of that. Lots of us are very cautious of the sweeteners because there has been quite a bit of controversy about them and they don't add a thing of value to the diet.

Good luck in your search!!

Keep us posted.

Blessings!
