Okay here I go again complaining...I sleep on my side and I wake with my hip hurting, turn over and wake up when that side hurts. The Dr. told me over the phone that she could give me shots to help that. Has anyone had experience with this?

I don't have a lot of problems with my hips, but I have had the same problem with my shoulders. I have also never had a shots or anything for it, so I guess I'm not a lot of help to you...Sorry, I guess there wasn't much point in me posting a response, huh? Anyway, I hope you find some sort of relief soon.
Lots of Love!

Linda,
I've had hip pain in the past the same way. I'm sorry your having this pain....it's awful! I have gotten cortisone injections many times for relief and it does help. If your not on prednisone the doctor may have to put you on a taper for a bit to get it under control.
I hope this gets better for you soon....((Hugs)). Please take care and keep us updated. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

(((( Linda ))))) Oh I had terrible pain in my hips & lower back. I hurt all night, tossed and turned all night, every night, it was terrible. I even thought it was my mattress and I have a nice pillow top mattress so I started looking at getting a new one (I'm glad I didn't now).

I am on a lot of meds for lupus and joint pain and not just one pill helps it all, well after almost 3 years of this I finally agreed to try Methotrexate and it has worked wonders for my hip and lower back pain. Before starting on MTX my rheumy said if my pain was degenerative the med wouldn't help but if it was from lupus it would. It took a while to kick in and every now and then it flares up and hurts a little but NOTHING compared to what it was like.

Be sure to mention this to your rheumy, maybe there is another med he/she is willing to try. I sure hope you get some relief soon.

Hi Linda,

Could it be your RA flaring up?  I have sacroiliitis (inflammation of the sacroiliiac joint).  The lower back/hip pain is excrutiating.  I've been told to sleep on a firm mattress and if needed, to sleep with a pillow between my legs if I'm on my side.  It does help, but it's not perfect.

I can't do the steroid injections because I'm on blood thinners. I think those are not long lasting anyway.  Just a bandaid solution.  Have you thought about physical therapy?

Hi Linda,

I had the same problem many years ago, and when it got to too much to handle my mom took me to the emergency room. I hadn't slept for three straight days because the pain was so bad. That's when I was finally diagnosed with lupus. All the pain was due to inflamation. After I received the prednisone, I got best nights sleep I had in a week. I now sleep with a pillow made specifically for keeping between your legs, and it keeps the lower back pain away.

Hi.  I'm sorry to hear that you're suffering from hip pain.  I've also suffered with hip pain for several years now.  I have RA, but my symptoms overlap a lot of with lupus (my mother had MCTD).  I'm currently taking enbrel and methotrexate for the RA, and doing wonderfully.  However, my hips still get extremely sore much of the time--although I no longer limp.  I very rarely can sleep on my side; I cannot sit crosslegged with my daughters; many times I cannot cross my legs when sitting in a chair; I have difficulty with stairs at times.  The best therapy I've found when my hips get bad is a combination of a very hot bath followed by a heating pad, which I sleep with all night.  I've never had injections for my hips, but perhaps my hips never got bad enough that an injection would help.  I also take tramadol for the pain, and I use tylenol pm at night.

I hope you find your magic therapy and that your hips settle down some.  I never realized how important my hips were until they were all but taken out of commission.
