i have a question, i always look like i have a sunburn on my face.  i have redness on my cheeks and forehead mainly.  i look like i have white circles around my eyes all the time.  this is a year round thing with me and i'm wondering if its related to lupus?

A few months after I started getting lupus symptoms I got the redness on my cheeks and some on my forehead and it has never left. I also get one on my neck and chest. Yes, this is a part of lupus and it is a malar rash, or aften called the butterfly rash. My facial rash is always there but it gets darker red when I am flaring or if I've had any sun exposure. You can do an internet search and find different pictures of the malar rash. For some people it is a raised and scaly rash, but for other people it looks like a constant sunburn.
Diagnosis:  UCTD (lupus) 2006; Raynauds 2006; Sjogren's 2006; lupus symptoms began 2003; UC 2008; CFS 1991; Mono 1985
Meds:  Plaquenil 400mg; Prednisone 5-10mg; Tramadol 100mg 3-4x daily; Doxepin 25-50mg; Prevacid; Evoxac; Steriod Cream and Mouth Rinse for tongue and mouth ulcers; Hydrocodone 5/500 prn for severe pain; Artificial tears

I have the exact same kind of rash, with the white around my eyes that make me look like I got burned with eyeglasses on. The skin seems to be very sensitive to light as well and since I'm already red, its hard to tell if my face gets sunburned. My lips and around the eyes are sensitive, so I try to keep them covered well. I went to a dermatologist and they gave me a cream to try, and it did improve the condition of my skin on my face a little and made it whiter for a few hours. Dermatologists have lots of good tools now, so if you can afford it and it bothers you, it might be worth doing a search for a dermatologist that deals with vitiligo and other types of treatments and try a consult. The biggest thing the cream did was to help me keep my pores clean, because my skin is also messed up too. He gave me a steroid cream to try on my face too.
