I guess I'm paying for having overdone it when I was getting my house ready to put on the market and spent three weeks without taking a break. Whereas my pain usually moves around my body, it has decided to settle in everywhere. My knees especially are on fire, making it real hard to walk. My elbows, wrists, and hands, and neck are all screaming loudly at me. I'm taking every pain pill possible but nothing makes me pain free. I've been taking it easy, resting, staying at home or hanging out at the yarn store with my buddies, but it doesn't help. Help!

I've lost a third of the weight I need to lose and have gotten rid of most of my fatigue (when I went gluten free) but this pain is just unbearable. I'm going to make an appointment to see an orthopedist about my knees since the last x-rays showed deterioration. I may also let my doctor do the bloodwork she wanted to do three weeks ago. This is a real bummer. I just don't handle pain very well.

I think I'll call the nurse and ask her to make me an appt with an orthopedist, tell her I want to come in for blood work, and then fill up all my ice bags and stretch out on the sofa and watch the olympics. My PCP gave me an NSAID but my tummy is so sensitive that I'm terrified of hurting my hiatal hernia so I haven't taken any and I refuse to take anymore prednisone.

Any suggestions? Please??

Oh no Patty! yep it sounds like you have over done it. Not to mention this moisture pumping through the state isn't helping much either. I've noticed knee, back, and ankle, aches the past couple of days. You don't have anything stronger like vicodin or somthing? That's what I take along with the pred. which seems to help quite a bit. Hopfully you can get in to the doctor and they can maybe get you a shot or somthing that won't bother your tummy. I think you got the right idea for now. Stay  off your feet and rest! smurf

let us know

love ya

Hey Patty,

Oh man.  You sound in a lot of discomfort.  ((((((hugs))))).  YOu know, maybe you need to talk to your rheumy about alternative meds?  I'm in the same boat as you.  I can't take NSAID's due to my low platelet issues and blood thinners.  I also refuse to live on higher doses of prednisone. I'm on enough as it is.  I need alternatives.

Can you try ice for the joints?  Does that make it worse?  Maybe heat?  Yikes, I don't know what to suggest.  I hope you can find some relief soon.

Patty,
I'm sorry to hear you are in so much pain...((Hugs)). I hope you get some relief soon. It sounds like you are in misery. Heat usually helps me...a nice hot bath, heating pad or electric blanket.
Hang in there and keep us updated. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I spent yesterday with ice bags on my knees and elbows, but alternating that with a hot bubble bath sounds like a great idea Babs. So Carol, I've been staying off my feet, Ginny, I've been using ice, and Babs, I'm going to take a hot bath.

You guys are the best and I love you!

Hey OHRebel, because of privacy issues I won't answer for patty but I live up by Enid in a small town called pond creek. Surprisingly I think oklahoma could actually have a get together of lupies and come up with a good size group. Either okla, texas, kansas. There are alot of us. I don't know about now because I've been gone for 2 months but there were several before. I used to have a rheumy in tulsa but I didn't care for them so I can't mention names. Nice to meet ya Okie! roll

I was almost afraid to ask where you all might live because of the problems that can come about from the internet. I love my Rheumy. When other Dr's couldn't figure things out she would nail it. I just about quite going to my PC and just go to the Rheumy. The past 2 years have been hell. When I went for my SS hearing last month they told me that she had written one of the best letters they had ever seen. She was the only reason I keep trying for the SS. I'm from the old school and family you work even if your on your death bed you get up and work.

My mother had cancer for over 12 years, even in her bones (she even passed out 1 time from shock with the pain from that) when she finally passed she had 4 big freezers of food cook and done up for my dad for when she might not be able to take care of things. She refused pain meds because she thought they might not work when she really needed them. I knew she would survive as long as she didn't think she was a burden. She passed away the day they moved a hospital bed into the house for her. She had been bed ridden for the last 6 months but she was still sharing the bed with my dad.

She is the reason I've tried to fight this so long, I keep thinking of myself as being a wimp.

Thanks Judy. I'm going to an orthopedist in a couple of weeks. Other than that, I need to stop feeling bad for myself and count my blessings.

Oldhippirebel, I live in the City. You're not too far away. You aren't either, Carol.

Thanks Stacie. I'm taking the slow release Tramadol - Ultram, at bedtime and it's helping a lot, especially because when I wake up it's already working for me and I'm not in as much pain as I usually am. I've really been taking it easy for the past week and a half and that helps too.

When I see the orthopedist I'm going to stress that I want to know what this is and that I'm looking for a baseline exam so that if my knees get worse as I age we'll know how fast this thing is progressing. Maybe as I lose weight it will get better.

Well, suddenly my pain is much better! Would you guys remind me the next time I flare that it's not forever!!!! I always think, "This is how I'm going to feel for the rest of my life" without realizing that I'm in a flare. Wake me up someone.

So this is wonderful news!!! I'm going to keep taking care of myself and will still see the orthopedist.

Thanks to all of you for your sympathy and support. I was sure having a pity party.

Patty:

I'm so happy to hear that you're feeling better today. Gosh I just posted in my post to you that I knew you were having a rough time of it and that I was offering up extra special prayers for you.

This is wonderful news, I know how terrible it can be to be in terrible pain. Good luck when you see the orthopedist I hope he/she can do something for you and quickly. Please remember to take it easy still and I'll keep praying for you just the same. I hope you have a nice weekend.

Love ya,
Barb

Thanks you two. Barb, I feel like a weinie for even mentioning joint pain with all that you are going through. I posted on your thread earlier and am anxious to see if you responded. I want to know how you're doing.

It's cooler here today Ginny. What a relief! The heat is a killer isn't it.
