I have this funky looking rash, sort of, on my right lower leg.  It started out as red dots, now it is "festering" and "weeping" this clear drainage.  It has a red perimeter around the whole rash, pretty large area, and it hurts like the dickens!  Its sort of feels like a sunburn.  I'm not sure what it is, possibley vasculitis.  Has anyone ever had cutaneous vasculitis?  I'm going to see my doc at 12:15 and if she says the word hospital to me i'm going to scream!  I wouldn't be worried about being admitted, except that i'm soooo anemic, AGAIN! and now this funky jungle rot on my leg!  I'll keep y'all posted!  Have a great day!  Love ya, Judy

Judy, you poor thing! A friend is recovering from cutaneous vasculitis around his ankle and up his leg and it is truly ugly, red, and twice as swollen as his left leg. He was not hospitalized for it, but then he doesn't have any physical problems. I'm glad you are going to keep us posted!

Well, this one was a shocker! My doc thinks this "rash" on my leg is herpes! CAn you imagine? She said my counts are so extremely low right now that I could have easily picked it up from a public facility, someone who is a carrier, a child who has had the chicken pox vaccination, etc. She said I essentially have not immunity right now. She really leaned toward putting me in the hospital. My H&H are low and she wants to take some fluid off with IV lasix. I begged for a few more days. So, I get my leg cultured tomorrow and have labs on Mon. If things aren't improved i'll land back in "JAIL"! She is taking me off of Imuran and putting me back in Cellcept for cognitive issues. I started have some troubles this weekend with my vision and speech. So, here we go again! Hope you all are well! Love, Judy

Hi Judy. How awful! Herpes (varicella) is nasty. I sure hope the rash doesn't spread. I'm sending you prayers, hugs and lots of positive energy. Love, Butterflake

You know, I thought it might be that...although it might be the different form of the almost identical thing, shingles. I also thought of a staph infection.

In either case, if the dr feels strongly you might want to do as she suggests -- both herpes & shingles can cause permanent nerve damage if left untreated too long.

Feel better soon!

Lynnwood,
The girl at the lab today told me it looks like shingles to her. It is infected. It hurts so bad and is weeping profusely. They did a tzank stain and a culture and sensitivity. One of my cousins that is a lab tech told me there is an outbreak of herpes right now in the community. She said they had a ten year old girl yesterday with the same thing under her eye. Thanx for your imput. I apologize if this is redundant. Are you a med student? You seem to know so much. Thanx, Judy

Not a med student !! HA HA :-) Just a life student!

Just somebody who picks up facts readily and has gotten around quite a bit in my almost-50 years. And I'm good at chasing down information about things I'm interested in.

I have herpes simplex 1 myself, and know 2 people that are in permanent pain from nerve damage because their shingles were not treated in time. I hope you don't run into problems.

Cheers,

Thanx Lynwood. You know I learn very easily. I made excellent grades in school. I graduated nursing school with a 3.8 grade point average. BUT...I can hardly recall anymore. I can comprehend it, but 2 days later I can't remember details. It's quite scarey! I know i've lost some ground sense the first time I had cerebritis. I wonder if there is any way to regain some of the lost function? Judy

Judy, I'm so sorry, but I had to chuckly when I read your post.  It was the term Jungle Rot that got me laughing.... I haven't heard that term in a long time tongue .

I thought about shingles too.  I had shingles back in 2004. Lynnwood does know what she's talking about.  WOW. I really hope you get this figured out and treated. It sounds terrible.  ((((hugs))))

Just don't touch it..... If it is shingles, you can spread it like butter....It'll be everywhere.

Keep us posted okay!

Thanx Ginny. It's not just weeping any more it is bawling! Gushing! Really draining alot! It is so painful. Every now and then it feels like a need is being poked in it. I'm trying not to touch it. Which isn't too hard because i'm so fat and it's down on my lower leg! Hopefully the culture will be back soon. She gave me an antibiotic script to cover it until the c&s comes back, but frankly I can't afford to get it until we know for sure that it will. I just can't spend money on something just to have it changed a few days later! Anyway, i'm being a whiny baby! Thanx guys, Judy

Oh Judy this sounds horrible!  I don't think it sounds like shingles if it's gushing like that.  Do you have it covered up with a gauze or anything?

You're not being a whiney baby!  You have a problem that is clearly not getting better!  (((hgus to you)))))

I do have it covered. I'm scared to death that one of my babies will get it! I would just die! It actually isn't gushing this morning. My aunt, who is a nurse, came last night and cleaned it and them put betadine and triple antibiotic on it and it isn't gushing this morning. It doesn't look better, but it definitley didn't get any worse! Thankx, Judy
