Hi Jeannie,
I'm a lurker but I wanted to post a reply to your question.
I've gotten these "things" on my toes for several years. With me this is usually the sign of a little flair up. From what my rheumy told me they are due to lack of circulation or raynauds. I'm not sure if you have raynauds but I know I do and my feet are constantly purple or grey. This might not be the case with you but when I sleep and it's just a little chilly I have to sleep with socks on b/c that's when I seem to lose the circulation in my feet the most. Since I've been wearing socks to bed I don't get the little buggers on my feet as much.
Good luck!
