Is it normal to have headaches around the eyes when getting up out of a chair or off the bed?  I don't want to maximise something that is not there.  But I do not wish to harm my eyes either.  when I first started taking plaquinil, there was pain in my eyes when i looked at bright sunlight, but it went away with time.  Now it seems it may be coming back.  Not as much as before, but still there.

I may be making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Have you seen a specialist about your eyes since you have been on plaq? You should have them checked ever 6 to 12 months. Depends on which rheumy you talk to. If your eyes are being effected you need to get off the plaq. On the other hand headaches and migraines are fairly common with lupus as well. Either way you should get it checked out as soon as you can.

Hey Carol,

I thinnk I panicked yesterday.  I have always worried about plaquinil hurting my eyes, and then when the pain was there I assumed it was the plaquinil.  It is gone this morning however, so it must not have been the plaquinil.

I have seen an opthamoligist.  Last month.  She was not very reassuring with her exam.  But she said she would use it as a standard, and would be able to tell next time she checked my eyes in six months.  And that has been playing over and over in my mind also.

I have these sores in my mouth that spread sort of like an infection.  and they sometimes spread to include my head.  And since it is gone this morning I am assuming that is what it was.

Thank you for your response

Hester

Hester, do you remember what the opthomologist said and why she said the exam wasn't very promising? It might be hard to tell whether it's the plaquenil until your next eye exam. I'm glad you have relief from the symptoms now - it's no fun to worry about that stuff. I do get headaches around my eyes when I get my lupus headaches. The pain gets bad enough behind and around my eyes that I feel like they are going to explode.

If you keep getting these symptoms it might be a good idea to see your eye doc sooner or maybe your medical doctor.

Meds:  Plaquenil 400mg; Prednisone 5-10mg; Tramadol 100mg 3-4x daily; Doxepin 25-50mg; Prevacid; Evoxac; Steriod Cream and Mouth Rinse for tongue and mouth ulcers; Hydrocodone 5/500 prn for severe pain; Artificial tears

Hey Hippo mom,

It wasn't so much what she said as how she said it.  She seemed to think that my eye exam should have been better than it was.  I know I did not pass the color alignment test, the tech told me.  but I never had an exam before I started taking plaquinil, so they have to use this one for future reference.

I did look up on the internet and found that light sensitivity was reason to call the doctor immediately.

So I will call him tomorrow, and see what he says to do.  It won't hurt to call.

thank you for your support.
