hey guys

i'm not sure if i have lupus. I had a doctor test me for it and my ana was negative.

i've been trying to figure out what has been happening to my body and i'm pretty convinced it's some sort of auto-immune dysfunction.

what blood tests are involved with diagnosing auto-immune?

i've already had ana and iga.

Hi Alex,

There is some good info on lupus and diagnosing lupus in the links at the end of my signature.

The one "4 of 11" will show you the criteria for dx.

I'm sorry I don't have time for a longer post today. But I'm sure some of the others will be along soon.

Hi Alexb,
Yep.  The ANA, anti-dna tests will tell if there is anything autoimmune going on.  So that leaves the door wide open for a pile of diseases.  From there, a specialist will take a look at your symptoms, narrow things down from there.  It can take a long time to get a diagnosis of an autoimmune disease.  Especially one that mimicks a bunch of others.  Unfortunately, lupus is the grand poobah of mimicking.  Other people get a clear diagnosis really fast.  It took me almost a decade to get my diagnosis. A lot depends on your symptoms, how severe they are, and the blood test results.
What symptoms are you having?

thanks for the info

which is more reliable ana or anti-dna?

i'm using a private company for blood tests instead of going through ins.

they have ana as an option but not ant-dna

anyone know any direct labs that offer more than ana?
