I did it,  I got the VSG (vertical sleeve gastronomy)   There are only a few surgeons in the US that do this and I think I had the best.  Since I could not have the by-pass or the lap band.  This is the best thing for a Lupus patient that wants to lose weight.
There is a tool out there to fight the evils of predisone!!

where did you have the surgery? I ask because I want to lose weight but not at the cost of absorbing my nutrients. Plus my husband could use a smaller stomach since he eats 10 times what I do.

I got it done in DesMoines, Iowa. Just find a doctor that will do the VSG. Make sure they know what they are doing, because you will not have the chance to undo it. The extra part of your stomach is gone. There is another site that talks about doctors and who does it. But I don't think I can put that on here, so email me at "hadakempe at hughes dot net" and I can give it to you.

Congratulations! Let us know how things go for you. How long were you in the hospital? What was your down time? Is it laproscopic? I'm trying to lose weight in order to qualify for a kidney transplant. Good luck to you! Judy

I was in the hospital 6 days. Down about 2 weeks, but still taking it slow, had to come off my methotrexate till Oct 16th, so worrying about Lupus going active. It is laproscopic with the chance of opening. I have lost 25lbs so far. Good luck to you on the transplant!!!!

Thanks all, I just hope that knowing that we do have options helps everyone that worries about the weight.
Thanks Hippi, How are you doing? I tried to email you but it came back. Just wondering how you were doing and if you made it to the walk this year? I did, it was better than last year to a extent.

I completely forgot about the walk confused   (darn brain fog).  I had been doing pretty well for about 4-5 months and am now trying to work my way out of a flare and am slowy starting to feel better.  That's weird about my e-mail because it should still be the same.  Check in my profile - it should be there.
