I have noticed for the last few days from mid calf down, on both legs is red.  They are not warm to touch, there is no pain, but they are very, very red.  Has anyone had this before?  I wonder if it has something to do with the dialysis?  I'm stumped!

I do have some good news.  I'm going to be switching to a new kind of dialysis, called Peritoneal Dialysis, that I can do at home!  I will not have to go to clinic for 4 hour sessions/3 days a week.  There are no needles involved.  NO fluid restrictions, which I hate!  And I'll have freedom to travel and do what I want!  I'm really excited about it.  It is also less stressful on your heart and body in the long term  It takes a few weeks to get set up, so hopefully by mid December i'll be doing it!  Yay!  Well, i'm off to dialysis now! BLaaaah!  Hope you all have a great weekend!  Love, Judy

There are SO many things I take for granted in my life!! I'm so happy that you'll soon be able to do your dialysis at home! YEAH!! It sounds like a huge interruption in your life having to go so often to do your treatments. Not quite so bad when you can take care of it at home. But still a major issue.

Don't know a thing about the red legs ?????? For sure check with your doc. I hope you'll keep us posted!!

Blessings!

Hi Judy. It's good to hear you'll be able to switch dialysis. I know December can't get here soon enough for ya. As for the redness, have you worn any new socks, compression stockings, etc recently? You might have developed an allergy. I hope your dialysis went okay today. Love, Butterflake

(((Butterflake, Rosie)))))))))),

You guys are so sweet. Dialysis went fine on Saturday. I found out what the redness is. It is cellulitus. I started running fever last night. They are going to address it at dialysis tomorrow! Hope you guys have an awesome day! Love, Judy

Judy . . . how will they address it? Antibiotics? They are waiting till tomorrow??

Judy . . . I'm sorry you are dealing with yet another issue. I'm just puzzled how an infection ended up in both feet/lower legs at the same time. It sounds like it may be systemic. Although I know little about celluitis . . . it just seems odd that its identical in both feet.

BUT . . . I'm so glad that they have it figured out and they are comfortable addressing it tomorrow. Makes it sound like its not a medical emergency. Although it seems like it should be.

I hope you'll keep us posted.

Chicken soup for you!!

Blessings!

Rosie, They said (dialysis nurses) the cellulitis is caused because of fluid trapped in the cells. Dialysis only removes it from the blood. So, they are going to give me something called Mannitol to pull it out of the cells into the blood. I am on Vancomycin iv and fortaz iv. However, I was on these when it started. So, the nurse just told me that she discussed it with my doc ans she is puzzled. I amgettingconcerned because I have been ruuning a fever at night. So...my doc is going to try to make it here to see me today before my tratment ends. Thanx 4 caring! Judy

((((( Judy )))))) I'm sorry . . . I thought cellulitis was always an infection. Its great if it isn't. But glad you noticed that you had a fever so the doc can check things out. I bet they'll get some bloodwork too.

Your post explains why it is in both legs though. I'll watch for your update after the doc sees you.

Blessings!

Judy, I'm glad you know what the redness is caused from. Good to know it's treatable! Let us know how the new dialysis works for you okay! I'm praying for you!

Well, I found out at dialysis yesterday, Dr. Creighton came by, and said it is Not cellulitis, it is a lupus flare causing a skin reaction. I recently dropped down to 5mg of prednison, went off of cellcept and imuran. She put me back on the imuran. I kind of thought in the back of my mind it may be a flare because, i'm mostly running fever at night and i've been real tired.

Rosie, I think cellulitis is inflammation, but it can be caused by several different factors.

Ginny, I will let you know about the new dialysis. I see the surgeon today that will insert the tube into the peritoneum for the dialysis. I also see the surgeon today who will do the second part of my fistula in my arm for a back up dialysis in the event that I get an infection for something!

I'll be thankful when the procedures are behind me! Love you guys!!! Judy

Hi Judy. You are such a trooper for going to all your visits and putting up with it all. I'm sure you'd like to just stay home and sleep. Keep up the good work Sweetie. I'm cheering for you! Love, Butterflake

Well....I just got home from my doctors visits. I have surgery Monday the 17th to put in the pd tube and Monday the 24th to finish my arm fistula. I'm disappointed because Wednesday the 18th is when my sister and I cook for the ACTS people at our church and of course the next surgery is the week of Thanksgiving!!! I really love helping prepare the meal for my family. Oh well, i've still got much to be thankful for and i'll be glad to get it all behind me.

Thank you guys for caring. I've been a little down and a bit afraid, because last time I had surgery I had an adrenal crisis and it was really frightening! I did discuss this with the surgeons and they plan to to pre dose me with steroids, but i'm still aprehensive. Hope you are all okay! Love, Judy

(((((( Judy )))))))

I know exactly what you mean about helping. I usually volunteer to make things that I can actually (at least partially) make ahead of time.

I have make ahead pie dough recipe and some meals that freeze well. Is there something you could make ahead of time???

I think we do such a good job of accepting our losses and our limitations that when one more thing is yanked from us it is just too hard to accept. I really feel for you. I'm so sorry your days set aside for helping others were stepped on.

Hugs, hot tea, and . . .

Blessings!

Thanx Rosie! I actually am making my dressing after dialysis tonight. I chopped the veggies after church late last nite and early this am before dialysis. I'll go ahead and make enough for thanksgiving and christmas and freeze it. It is one of those foods that taste better after it's been frozen to me! I'll also make pies and cakes ahead and freeze them too. I make my cake layers and freeze them individually andput my fillings and frostings on the day of. So, it will all be okay in the long run. My sweet sister makes a huge potato salad and she will be a trmendous help as usual! I've really got alot of blessings to count! Judy
