I just wanted to share this cool dream I had.  I haven't been able to walk for long distances or stand for a long time, due to spinal damage from prednisone.  The other night I dreamed I was running. It was so real feeling and totally awesome.  I could hear people saying, wow, she hasn't even been able to walk and now she's running!  I hope it proves prophetic!  Some times i'm at peace with my situation and sometimes I ache to be well and actively pursuing live again.  Right now I want to be whole again physically, so bad!  Do you guys flip-flop like that?  Judy

YES! I have dreams like that too! Sometimes, I'm effortlessly jogging along ... and sometimes I'm flying about 5 feet off the ground.

And yes . . . I can be perfectly content with "the way things are" and then some little thing will really "get me". When I see backpacking equipment or walk through a sporting goods store, I end up in trouble. I am a true "suzie homemake" but I am also a real tomboy and I was training to hopefully walk the Appalachian Trail (a few years ago). But ended up living in a recliner for a couple years.

I'm still hopeful . . . but its just a bit of a dream now and I'm coming to terms with the thought that I really can't spend 3 months on a trail to walk 2000+ miles.

The good news, for me, is that I am able to walk 1-3 miles at a time and I'm enjoying more energy and strength than I'd had for a long time. I hope the same happens for you. I had actually given up on ever having the ability to take care of my home again. So, for now, I WAY appreciate each time I am able to wash the floor and walk up and down the steps with laundry . . . it is an extreme privilege that I will never again take for granted.

Rosie,
You are right on. There are so many things, if regain, I will not take for granted ever again in my life. I just loved the since of freedom I felt running. Sometimes I dream i'm a little girl swinging. For some reason it comforts me when I feel so 'bound' by my body! You have such a way with words, Rosie. I felt kind of stupid for posting that! You are so reassuring and validating and I don't take you for granted either! Love ya, Judy

Oh Judy . . . no . . . I'm SO glad that you were able to share about this topic. It's really hard to start a topic like this and I think we all find ways to cope. Sharing our coping strategies and our disappointments and aspirations is good for most everyone. Thanks for braving this topic.

Blessings!

(((( Judy ))))) I am glad you shared with us too. I don't remember ever having a dream like that but I do have dreams of eating donuts, pop tarts, etc then I say in my dream "oh no, now I have 30 minutes to get home" before my intestines explode from the gluten. I guess sometimes we get to do things in our dreams that we long to do. Hang in there sis and take good care of yourself :-)

Oh, to run again! I ran the Chicago Marathon 3 years before my friend "Lupus" arrived...I was so very happy at the end when I felt great and was still able to 'bounce'! Some of my running friends were all wobbly and sore for a week and I was feeling *so* good! I'm really glad I enjoyed it so fully

Now they still run and I stay home and sleep! Life changes, and I've learned a lot about how to deal with major life changes and still be okay and move along with things. Maybe move slowly, but still live!

Keep on dreaming!

Judy, I have those dreams too!  I'm glad you shared with us!  My "running" dreams are actually me on skates.  I can skate faster than everyone else and I can't fall.  Funny eh!  I usually have these recouring dreams when I'm at a stage in life where I'm feeling in control and things seem to be working and feeling really well.  Now that we're talking about these dreams, i'll probably have a skating dream tonight!

I only have this dream when life is going well!

I hope you have LOTS of these running dreams.  They feel good don't they. Like you don't want to wake up!

Love
Ginny

It's kind of ironic. I went to my heart doc today and he told me that my heart muscle is still strong, there is some damage to my heart but nothing that would prevent me from having a transplant. He told me he wants me to get a stationary bike and start trying to recondition my wasted muscles! I really feel encouraged. Now to pace myself and not try to 'run' before I can walk!!!!

I know this has been reiterated alot, but how sweet is it to have people who truly understand your craziness?!!! Love ya, Judy

Judy . . . let us know how the bike thing goes. You need to have it near a tv. I should start using my treadmill again . . . now that it is flipping cold outside most days.

Start slow and for a very short time . . . I've found that I can do more and make better progress by doing very short distance two or three times a day.

Keep us posted, ok?

Blessings!
