Okay, so I've been feeling fairly good and my blood work was 'perfect last month' & regular rhuemy appointments have been uneventful and I'm dropping 1 mg of prednisone per month (at 7 mg now) without any big issues....

So I go to my PCP for a regular annual checkup.

As part of her routine she did a chest x-ray and found a "spot" she wants to look at again in 3 months. I said "Is it right here?" and pointed to where my chest hurts when I breathe deeply (about 3 weeks), also my back started hurting in that spot a week ago. Turns out that's right where "the spot" is. Mind you this is nothing I mentioned...

Also mentioned some GI and/or GYN issues, so of course came away with appointments to see GI (at minimum a 'colon cancer screening') & GYN (MRI looking for hip bone pain already found probable cysts). Also appointment for mammogram & time for annual eye exam.

Mind you, I feel good. Tired still from a couple days away last week, but good. Until I started scheduling these appointments and heard about the lung thing....now I feel like I'm falling apart. I want a lung CT NOW!

And to top it all off, my brother who has always been very list-oriented for birthdays & christmases wanted a list...I emailed a link directly to what I wanted....short suede slippers, no soles, lined....and difficult to find...all he had to to was order. And he usually sends me the same kind of list, specifying exact things so I do that without substitution. He wants specific equipment or DVDs where substitutions are obviously not the same. So today I get drop shipment from vendor.....for something labeled "these will keep your ankles warm too". Well, that is so NOT what I wanted!!! Why can't he listen if he expects me to listen??? If I wanted them to cover my ankles that's what I would have specified. When my toes are cold in the summer I darn well don't want my ankles covered!!! ARG!!!! I supposed I'm still over-tired from the trip as the stupid wrong slippers made me cry. (I'm not a cryer.)

Hope ya'll had a better day than I!

Oh Lynnwood, you have had a crappy day.  I'm sorry.  I sure do hope that your lungs are okay?  I sure wouldn't want to wait 3 months though!  Anything you can do to speed it up?

(((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))).  I think your bro meant well, but guys aren't good listeners... OY. I think you're right.  You had a long trip, you're tired and you need a good sleep!  You could always take a pair of sissors to those ankle warmers!

I hope you have a better day tomorrow Lynnwood,

Sending good thoughts your way,
Ginny

Hi Lynnwood, well heck ya it's always scarey to hear things to do with your lungs or heart or body parts ya just can't live without. As you know my lungs are SHOT! I have tons of spots on them. They want to check them again in march. They can be a lot of things. 99% of spots on lungs are benign. They could be scar tissue from pnemonia or bronchitis or if you ever smoked? I do understand the wanting to get the scan done though. It seems like they drag things out when we are the ones setting back scared and thinking the worst. I'm gonna take a stab at this and say the pain in your chest is like an arrow that could go streight through from the front to exactly the same spot in the back? If it is mine and my mom's has just been muscle issues. Are you anemic? Usually if you had cancer "God forbid" your blood test would not have come back so good. Ok you lost me on the MRI bone pain cyst thing. I assume you have cysts on your overies. I tell ya God must have some sense of humor to give us all these extra parts to have to deal with!
I know it's a pain but the colon screening and mamograms is a nessesary thing when you get to be our age. Also if there is anything going on in your chest a lot of times they can actually spot it through a mamogram. If the doctor sees it and doesn't like what she sees I'm sure she will bump up the CT.
I'm sure you are tired from your trip but I wa thinking about you last night and how wonderful the whole spa thing sounded. ahhhh!
I'm not sure if these are the slippers you meant but I'll describe them. They are brown like moccassins, soft sheep skin fuzzy inside? No hard sole. Just soft bottoms. My hubby used to always want them for christmas every year. The only place I could find them was a kmart. At the time they were about 10.00 of course that was in 2000 the last time I bought them.
If I can find some online I'd love to send you a pair for xmas. Well unless of course they went up to 50 bucks or something lol.
Sending you huge hugs I hope you get some rest and de-stress. Than go buy your brother some dvd's like the first wives clubs and sisterhoood of the traveling pants!
love ya
carol

Thanks! Guess I needed a rant last night!

Carol, I did not know that a muscle issue could show up as a spot on an x-ray. That is probably all that is going on. Never smoked, but had bronchitis & pneumonia over 30 years ago - but surely scar tissue would have shown up much earlier than now.

You know, I never thought of this before - my mother had uterine chance that after 25 years metastasized to her lungs. Would that be considered lung cancer in terms of evaluating my risk? I've read if your parent has lung cancer you have 50% more chance of getting it, but I'm betting that is because of smoking in the home, which was not the case.

Yes, those are the slippers, but for the last 2 years (been looking as my pair from 1994 finally is wearing out) the trend has been that they all have soles - usually those soft rubber 'crepe' soles, but still nothing I want to curl up on the sofa in. Plus our Kmarts were all chased away by Target. So now the right ones are costly, hard to find in my size, and $50-$60. He got the wrong ones to save $20 & he has plenty of $$$.

I *love* the idea of sending him a girly movie -- even better, I'll send him a used one on VCR tape! You made me laugh! :-)

Today is better.... smilewinkgrin

Lynnwood, I don't blame you for wanting a lung CT soon. Waiting and worrying for 3 months would be hard - I'd be a basket case! I hope it's like Carol said and is a muscle issue showing up on the x ray.

I hear you about the slippers. If someone catches me at the wrong time with the wrong thing, I either bite their head off or cry. I'm glad to hear that today was a better day for you.

I didn't mean the spot was a muscle I meant the pain was probably a muscle. The spot I have no idea. I'm just holding on to the idea that 99% are benign. So we are just gonna hold on to that thought. I'm going through the same thing with the 3 month check it again. So we will just stay positive and when we get stressed out we can just do something really rotten to our brothers! yeah

hugs

Hey Lynnwood. I have a spot on my lung too. I had two CTs three months apart and the spot didn't change (grow). I'll get another CT (one year) and if no change, no more CTs (well, I might ask for one at 5 years). Docs are guessing mine might be latent TB 'cause I used to grow TB. I know from my work that only approx 2% of latent TB ever becomes infectious. Rheumy was more concerned about having too many CT scans causing me to mutate. If I do maybe I'll grow into a six foot tall giant (instead of 5 feet) and take over Midtown smilewinkgrin   Anyway, try not to worry. Get the CTs and then worry. Like Carol said, a spot can be many things. Love ya, Butterflake
