Oh my where do I start. LOL I plan on so much. I had so many changes this past year, foreseen and unforeseen. One this past year was just to make it to Arizona and get through the Mayo Clinic. And get through the separation. Never in a million years did I plan on the restraining orders, amendments to it, etc. My oh my what a year. This year is getting through the divorce and re-losing the weight I had lost, and refocusing on gym etc. That should be enough to keep me busy. Also trying to re-learn my math and study for my pharmacy tech.

I'm going to re-instate the habit of brushing my teeth morning and evening.

When the fatigue set in, it was just too hard and I started skipping some. Then when my cognitive dysfunction was at it's worst, I just couldn't remember anything....and now I've lost the habit & won't remember for a day or two. How embarrassing to admit!!!

My parents would be SO upset if they knew, it was such a ritual growing up.

Mine is to lose 20lbs, add in at least 15 minutes of exercise 3 times a week, write more often, get more organized, spend more time awake, and get off prednisone and cell cept. I figure that is pretty ambitious but it is what I want. I figure organization is one I make every year. Writing I am doing pretty well now so if I can just continue at this pace/level I will be sitting pretty. 20lbs will be easy to lose if I get off prednisone. Cell cept was a temporary measure we had planned to go off in January if I had improved enough and I think I have. Exercise will be very hard and so will spending more time awake. I am so tired due to the prednsione taper. I go down again Sunday. I will be on 10mg after that lowering. That is halfway to off. I have to be very careful though as we lower my dose below 10mg.

At this point I really haven't given too much thought to what I would like to accomplish in 2009, I guess I need to get as it will be here before I know it! As I sit here I know one of the things should be to begin exercising, at least a few times a week. I am loosing weight rapidly, but unfortuately it's muscle mass I am loosing, the flab is still with me. I love, love, love to play golf, so I would love to get fit enough to able to play golf with my husband and son again. And who knows, if my health gets better I might even be able to join the ladies at the club a couple times a month to play. That is a big stretch, but one worth shooting for I guess.

Thanks for posting this subject, now my mind is wandering, I am looking forward to putting together some positive goals for 2009!

Cheers,

Melissa

Yes, I too would like to lose at least 10-20 pounds.  Was doing so well till the first of October, not sure what happened, except I was feeling so much better.

Exercise more and do some volunteering.  There are no excuses for trying to keep up with the healthy eating and exercise.  I take time to sit in front of the TV so why not take time for more important things.

Merry Christmas to all and a very Happy New Year

My resolution is to hang with my girlfriends more than I have since I've been sick.  I really didn't have enough energy to do that, and now I see all that I've missed.  Its a win/win situation if I can do it.  Oh yeah and the usual, loose some weight and work out more.  Who doesn't wish for this?

I think the weight loss goal is very common among us!  We should start a little club and use it to encourage each other and keep us on track!

Well, I actually make my annual review & adjustments on my birthday, not New Years. But I want to offer some encouragement.

Last year I committed to act consciously regarding food. (That sounds & feels better than the "I must loose x pounds" approach which is self-shaming in nature.) I focused on eating clean protein (ie lower fat w/out heavy sauces), vegetables and fruit. That meant when at the grocery I simply did not buy processed foods, breads, crackers, pasta, or items with high sugar content. Keeping the focus on eating what was good for me worked better than the 'I can't eat that' approach.

I also committed to consider movement daily as it was physically possible -- hoping to walk about an hour 2-3 times a week. I had to work up to that, and be gentle with myself and let it go when I couldn't do it. It was what I wanted to do, again not what I had to do. If I missed on it for a while, I didn't ever look back. More like, can I walk some today? How much feels comfortable?

Between these 2 gentle approaches, I lost 15 pounds over the course of the year, and never felt bad about not losing more, not 'getting it right', or anything like that. about 12 pounds less than I had hoped, but I'd rather have a couple extra pounds than the mental aggravation and stress (so bad for lupus) from trying to force things.

Carrot, not stick! Hope that helps! (Continuing the same this year & hoping lowering prednisone helps, too!)

Like a lot of you, I am going to continue to try to eat healthier and hopefully move more. I also really want to work on being there more for my husband. He has been so great through my illness and I feel bad that I just don't have much energy left for him by the time he gets home from work. All my energy seems to go to my kids and I hate that I neglect my husband much of the time. We have a great friendship and enjoy being with each other, but it's gotten more like a platonic relationship because the intimacy is so lacking.

Wow!  Great responses everyone!  Sounds like we all want the same things.... Weight loss, better diet, more exercise and MORE FUN!!!!!  Oh, please, let's all have more fun!  tongue Let's encourage one another on these goals, and the goals I didn't mention, that are so important to each individual.  Having some accountability partners really works.

Blessings to everyone!
