Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have had firbromyalgia for about 13 years now. I also have a very bad knee. Had surgery twice. Have had a hysterectomy, a lot of arthritis. I've been tested several times for LUPUS. For about 10 years my ANA was possible and had almost all the symptons of LUPUS but no definate diagnosis. I've also been tested several times for hypothroiydism. (speeling, not sure). Comes back negative, again, I have all the symptons. Over the past year I've had 6 molars break in half. It's not only scary but very expensive. I googled for broken molars and most searches came up as LUPUS. Have any of you had these problems. Does anyone have any advice.
Thanks Alot,

Kiki

Wow, I have not experienced the broken molars, either. I do have a problem with my front tooth "chipping" every few years, though. My dentist just repaired a chip and had to build it up since there was not enough tooth for filing it down anymore. I cannot believe how normal the tooth looks!

I hope you find answers to your questions, Kiki, the HW family is wonderful. The holidays have been slow here at HW but, as everyone is settled back into normal routines, the traffic here will pick up and you will have many responses to any questions you might have.

Welcome!
Prayers,

Hi Kiki and welcome. I haven't had broken molars, but I do have dental problems since I have gotten lupus and sjogrens due to the extreme dry mouth that I have.

I'm glad your doc continues to run labs and is looking into your symptoms. Is your doc treating any of your lupus symptoms or is he focused primarily on treating your fibro?

I'm glad you joined the forum - it's really a great place and you are among people who understand what it is like to be in diagnosis limbo. It's very common for it to take years to get an accurate diagnosis.
Diagnosis:  UCTD (lupus) 2006; Raynauds 2006; Sjogren's 2006; lupus symptoms began 2003; UC 2008; CFS 1991; Mono 1985
Meds:  Plaquenil 400mg; Prednisone 5-10mg; Tramadol 100mg 3-4x daily; Doxepin 25-50mg; Prevacid; Evoxac; Steriod Cream and Mouth Rinse for tongue and mouth ulcers; Hydrocodone 5/500 prn for severe pain; Artificial tears

My rheumy pretty much focusing on the fibro. Always running ANA labs and thyroid labs also. I'm going to make an appt tomorrow and get more aggressive with him. All my medical problems starting about 19 years ago shortly after my dad passed away. Thanks for the encouragement. I'm sure you know sometimes you feel very alone. As in my case I'm a hyper person and have had an in home daycare for 20 years. No one realizes how I feel, as I always put on a good front because I love the kids I care for.
Have a great New Year's.

Have any of you been diagnosed with fibro and then be diagnosed with Lupus? I've been going through the fibro thing for years and have all the symptons of Lupus, except for a rash. Would love to hear from you.

Hi Kiki,

I was just going to mention exactly what Lynnwood has already said.  The dry mouth issue can wreak havoc on our teeth.  It's called Sjogren's Syndrome (show-grins).  A blood test will diagnosis it.  It's common in Lupus and Fibromyalgia.

I was diagnosed with lupus first, and within a couple of months the Fibro diagnosis came. I think I've had them both, together for a long time. I've hardly ever had the lupus rash as well.  But I had 8 of the other 11 criteria for lupus.

It's not an easy thing to differentiate between Lupus and Fibro.  ONe of the tell-tale signs that it's Fibro only is if all of your blood tests keep coming back normal, month after month, etc.  If you start getting positive results, that's a good indicator that more than Fibro is going on.  Fibro will always make you look like you're totally healthy and normal (as far as the blood work goes).

I hope this helps!  Welcome to the forum!

Ginny
