Hi Denise,

Sorry to hear you have such a bad cold. How long until you get in to see the ENT specialist? I hope you can get a good sleep sitting up.  Keep us posted okay,

Denise, you sound miserable. Afrin is wonderful when you first find it but awful if you overuse it. My brother became addicted to it once and ended up having to have surgery for a deviated septum (not because of the afrin, but the deviated septum and allergies caused him to overuse the afrin).

I often wake up with a sinus headache, and though my sinuses are not nearly as bad as yours, I'll share a temporary home remedy a pharmacist buddy fixed me once. Fill a pot with water, cut a grapefruit in half and throw it in, and add a little mentholatum. Bring it to a boil, lean over the pot with a towel over your head, and let the steam go up in your nose and mouth. I don't know how that will work for serious sinus problems, but it sure opens mine up. And it's better than drinking real hot tea (which I do a lot) or putting hot washcloths over your face (which my hubby does for me all the time.) And of course the sinus rinse is a godsend. My PCP recommends I do that every day.

I hope your cold gets better!

Thanks all. I did some rest last  ght but my back really hurts from caughing. I did not caugh last night but had problems breathing. I did some resurch on the computer and found out. If I stay offthe nose spray fros 4-7 weeks I may have relief. The er dr did put me on flonase. I do have some relief. It was not as bad as going with out. I did sleep in a upright position. not to bad.

I would like to say that if you use nose spray like I did please get to a Dr and tell them. I was told I could have another stroke. I am not going to go threw that again. Please get help if you need it.

Hey Tink2. thank you for the advice.  Something else that can find us have a stroke.  No end in sight sometimes.  I see that Google has provided to me the definition of Afrin. I do not have the congestion enough to need a spray.  I don't want another stroke.  maybe I need to mention it to the rheumy.  I don't want another medicatioin either.  I already have 14 meds.  some for nitro, and I do not have to take it all the time thank goodness.  I could run my only pharmacy from my med cabinet;)

this is not a good day for me emotionally.  Hope things will be better for you.
