Has anyone had to switch from methotrexate to imuran? I've been on mxt for 9 years and the past couple of years I've struggled tolerating it. Even taking it by injection nauseated me. I've switched to imuran, but can't seem to get the same effectiveness from it. I hate to supplement with prednisone because I already have osteopenia. Thanks again for letting me start to bombard you all with questions. I just feel the last 2 years I'm back to the beginning in trying to stableilze my lupus and ra.

Had a real bad reaction to Imuran - but it took 10 days to happen. Never took methotrexate, though. Good Luck!
Take care,

I had to switch from mtx to immuran, I had a bad reaction to mtx. The immuran took a couple of months to work for me, but the side affects so far (knock on wood) have not been bad at all. It seems as far as the joint pain goes it is helping quite a bit. I do take prednisone, but I'm on a very low dose, 5mg, basically a maintenance dose.

I wish you the best in getting a grip on your search for finding the right mix of meds. I know it can be hard at times. It's like mixing a cocktail at times isn't it? A little of this, a little of that, a sip to see if that works. And some nights we need a double shot of this...hehehe.

Take care.

I've been on Imuran since 2005 it works very well for my GI issues but not much for my joint pain. Almost a year ago (wow time sure flies by) I started on MTX too because my joint pain in my hips, lower back, hands and feet were unbearable. It took a while to get in my system but works pretty good, it works great for my hips but still have pain in the other joints. I am also on plaq which helps with my fatigue and joint pain and an NSAIDS and muscle relaxer!

It's so hard getting the right combo of meds, I hope you find some relief soon. Take care and keep us updated on how you are doing.
