Hi everyone! I have just become aware of a major bruise on the inside of my right foot. It does not hurt to touch it but it looks awful. I have had a lot of what I thought were varicose veins in the area where the bruise is now located. I am currently tapering down on my prednisone and I take 5 mg per day.

Should I go to my doctor about this? Or, can it wait until my rhuemy appt. at the end of January? Has anyone here had this happen before?

Audrey

Hey its something I can answer in this section (heh). Prednisone, it sounds like you been on a long term series of it like I. It makes acid relux worse, and will make you bruise easy. And dont you forget those wonderfull muscle spasms and cramps that wake us up or hit us while we are shopping or anywhere. Just leave a message for the doctor that you are bruising easy, but you will be fine. I bumped into a toy (u know how kids are), and it put a huge bruise and small ever bleedy scratch right about my ankle. It took a few months to heal too.

I bruise really easily on prednisone too - even a slight bump will turn into a bruise. I'd say if it looks worse or you get pain or just doesn't seem right, then error on the side of safety and call the doc. Lots of bruising could be prednisone, but there are other things that cause bruising too. Keep us updated and take care.

I would suggest you to call the doctor.  If you have pain in the brusies, and you hv not injured yourself, it may be something else.

Thanks so much, everyone, for your good advice! I do not have pain and I do not remember hurting myself where the bruise has appeared but that doesn't mean anything since I have been on prednisone for over year for this round of pred. I probably did run into something to cause the bruise. I will make a note of it in my notes for my rheumy and see her in a few weeks. I will keep everyone updated! I don't know why I didn't put this very obvious conclusion together - it is amazing how busy I am with my new job and I have to be careful about not neglecting myself. Thanks, again, everyone!

PS Is anyone else cold out there? It is literally freezing here in lower Michigan! Brrrrrr!
