Can someone tell me if bruising is a symptum of Lupus? I go fo Pelvc physical therapy, and my therapist said, that she has never had anyone bruise like I have. I do not have a diagnoses of Lupus, but have suspected it for a very long time. My Dr.s have never tested me for it in any way, although I know that there is no definative test for it. I do have a few other symptums of the disease, and I am going to talk to my Pelvic Dr. about it. I have never brought it up because I have always thought they would think I was self diagnosing, and second guessing them. But enough is enough. I do I bring it up to the Dr. with out really making them angry?
Thank you

I bruise very easily and alot, but I have never been told it is because of the Lupus. I always have bruises and I don't even know how I get them. Also after my last massage I ended up very bruised. I am going to ask my rheumy next appointment. I would bring up Lupus to your doctor. Are you seeing a rheumy? I went to my rheumy because I thought I just had fibro. But he thought I either had psoriatic arthritis or Lupus. After about 6 months he dx Lupus. But my blood tests are inconclusive.

I have bruised very easily since I was a child and was very dark complected. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with lupus or not. I do know that lupus can affect the platelets which could lead to bruising. Have you had a routine cbc done recently? Hope you get to the bottom of your symptoms. judy

I have had a routine cbc done, about 3 months ago. The Dr. Said the were normal. My reg GP. Does Lupus show up in a cbc. I though another blood test was needed.

Hi Hydrangea,

Yep, Judy is right.  It has to do with our platelets.  Lupus will create a syndrome in some people called Thrombocytopenia. I have this.  Along with Prednisone, you can bruise very easily.

A CBC will tell you if your platelets are too low. No, Lupus won't show up in a CBC.  All a CBC will do is give a snapshot of how your general well-being is. A Lupus blood panel will help aid a doctor in a diagnosis.
