Oh Smurfy, I feel your pain. Don't worry about the brains. I have met several drs that don't have any.
As for your question. You can have what is called a false/possitive. Which will show up possitive but be negative. You can also have an auto immune disease and still have a negative ANA. My ANA is ususally 1:2560 and I have been told by 2 different drs now that people with a possitive ANA means they are healthy. I'm not sure what playbiy magazine they were reading out of at the time but it just left me shaking my head.
What did your Dr. have to say about your results?
PCP pretty convinced- Lupus , Taking plaquenil,Propranolol, Flexeril,Claritin, Zantac,Ambien,vitamin B-12, multi- vitamin, Lortab. Prednisone 15mg daily added 03/09. Mom of 2 boys 1 and 6. Symptoms: Fatigue, joint pain, heat/sun sensitivity, mouth and nose sores, malar rash, migranes, awful hives, positive ANA, and RF.
