I'm doing my best to not vomit all over the keyboard right now.  I spent 6 hours at the ER last night with the most unbelieveable abdominal pain and diahrrea.  The ER doc said it was likely a case of gastroenteritis.  I'm way worse today.  The pain is aweful and I'm really nauseated.  It feels like my stomach, intestines and bowels are being rubbed together with sandpaper.

Have any of you had a diagnosis of viral or bacterial gastroenteritis?  If I still have this on monday I have to go and get tested to see if it's viral or bacterial.  I'm thinking, if I feel this bad or worse tomorrow, I'm not waiting until Monday.  I'll go to an urgent care clinic!

Okay, I need to lay down.  Hope you all have a good weekend,

Ginny

I've had it, and its not pleasant. In my case, antibiotics cleared it up pretty fast. I also have diverticulosis, wihich has spread pretty bad and occasionally gets infected. I have been given flagyl at times when things are really bad, and they are unpleasant pills to try to get down, but sometimes the only thing that works. The antibiotics really help, and minding a diet. I have irritable bowel as well and take Bentyl to prevent spasms. I take them too when I get gi issues, as it usually flares up and the bentyl helps me.

I got so bad I was having stuff shooting out both ends. Well, one way to look at it isthat the sooner you get to the doc, the sooner you'll feel better.

I hope you feel better and can get in to the doctor and get well soon.
Love, Marji

Ginny! I'm so sorry you're sick. I've had gastritis and it is painful. Maybe you should go ahead to the clinic! Please let us know. Judy

Hi everyone, thanks for the well wishes!

I have improved immensely over night. Still have some adominal pain but it's completely manageable. I haven't had any "big D" yet today, i'll see how that goes as the day progresses.  I'm not nauseated and I have an appetite, so my guess is that I'm on the mend!

Glad to hear you are better Ginny. :)

I would follow up with your regular doc. Your attack sounds very acute. Could very well be gastroenteritis but always best to make sure. My husband had those attacks on and off for a few months and the docs at the ER told him the same thing. Ended up finding out that he had gallstones (which also caused pancreatitis) and he would get an attack when they got lodged in the duct which they eventually found during a abdominal ultrasound. He was in horrible pain and very sick.

Hi dbab, thanks for the advice on what to do!  In fact, this morning I had an abdominal ultrasound done to check my spleen.  My platelet count has been very low for about 3 months now.  My spleen is fine, normal size.  So that's not the culprit (thank goodness!).  All my other organs were checked too, so I'll know more when my doctor gets back to me.  I'm pretty much feeling fine now with the exception of some off and on bowel cramping.  Good gracious!! That is horrible.
