Hi everyone,

I was just diagnosed with Lupus last week, but I have been living with the symptoms for years and years. It took eight years for me to be diagnosed because I've also been struggling with anorexia, which surprisingly has a lot of the same symptoms. I had to get my wisdom teeth out a few weeks ago, which lead to a pre operative physical that showed abnormal levels of protein in my urine, which lead to blood tests that showed positive ANA antibodies. I had my first CT scan yesterday to see if any damage has been done to my kidneys.

The symptoms that I've been living with are extreme fatigue, seizures, carpal tunnel, discoid rash, hair loss, purple fingers and toes, and anemia.

I guess I'm just being hopeful, but is there any way that I could NOT have lupus and those could really just be side effects from my eating disorder? My doctor is well aware of the eating disorder and says that the two are completely unrelated. I'm just not so sure.

Hi Brandi, Wanted to say welcome. I can't answer about anorexia, but your symptoms do sound like lupus. But if you are unsure, maybe the doctor can double check the results for you.

Hope all is well from the wisdom teeth extraction!
Take care,
Fran

Hi Brandi,

Welcome to the forum. I hope you're not in pain from your dental surgery!

I also don't know if anorexia is related to autoimmune diseases.  It's good you're getting answers.  Are you getting treatment for the Lupus?  How are you doing with your eating disorder?  Baby steps to success!  We're here for ya!

Thanks for your replies. Right now I'm waiting to hear back from my family doctor about the results of my CT scan. I also made an rheumatologist appointment, but can't get in until August 18th. They did put me on the wait list, though, so hopefully I'll be seen sooner. I've been really struggling with the eating disorder for the past few years. I've been in treatment three times, but just can't seem to beat it. I do know that I'm going to really have to start working on it now, though. I can't risk all the added stress it causes me on top of the physical side effects.

Brandi,

I join the others in offering you a warm welcome to our forum. We are always happy to meet new folks, but saddened to learn of another lupus diagnosis.

I'm curious as to who diagnosed your lupus. You really should see a rheumatologist who specializes in lupus so you can get a thorough workup. Your symptoms sound very similar to mine, although you don't mention joint pain, which is different than carpal tunnel, and is a very common symptom of lupus.

Start keeping a journal of your symptoms. That will serve as an aid to your rheumatologist as he or she treats you. Hopefully you'll receive medication that will halt or slow down your symptoms.

I wish you the best with your anorexia, which I understand can be very debilitating. How awful to suffer from both diseases.

Let us know more about yourself. I'm glad you found this great family of lupies.

Pat, my family doctor diagnosed me and has referred me to a rheumatologist to take over my treatment. I won't be able to see him until mid august, though.

The only time I've ever had joint pain is after exercising, really. But I don't believe there's any swelling along with it, so I've never really paid attention to it.

Here's some more about me: I'm 20 years old and live in Dallas, Texas. I trained and showed American Saddlebred horses for about six years all around the United States. I quit riding after my senior year of high school because it really just took too much energy out of me. My new hobby is playing guitar, which I'm not too good at, but it's fun. I took a two year break from school after graduating, and I'm going to start back this August, which I'm really excited about. I plan on getting my bachelors degree in Interior and Architectural Design.

Brandi, my wife had similar test results and also was referred to a rheumatologist. She was confirmed to have SLE or Lupus, I sincerely hope that you don't have this. My wife has been doing OK, she deals with joint pains and Reynauds syndrom when it gets cold, that is when her fingers turn purple to white if they are exposed to real cold weather. Right now we beleive she maybe having a lupus flare which I don't really know what can be called a flare, all I know is that it started with body aches, chills, slight fever and a slight headache. Now everything has gone except the headahe and the nausea has started. 18 months ago, she had a bout with meningitis, that was attributed to her lupus, but I think its because they couldn't find another explanation for it, cultures for common bacterial infections and viral infections that they normally look at for meningitis came up negative, so they called it aseptic meningitis. We are really worried that it is coming around again, because the symptons we have now are similar. I pray that they are not, it was a miserable 5 nights in the hospital the last time. Since then we have a infant son, which by the way if you get pregnant all the Lupus syptoms go away or go on stand by mode until after the pregnancy.

Good luck, we wish you the best.
