Hi Hester,

This is very interesting!  I didn't know about this drug.  Well, it's about time a new medication was discovered.  It will be interesting to hear about updates on this one!  Thanks!

wouldn't that be wonderful if we could have this new drug?  no steroids ever again.

Methotrexae's ability to work for me against the pain, and the diarrhea, and the weakness and loss of energy is not doing this now.  all the doctor can do now is give me prednisone.  i do not wish to take predinisone, but it sure does feel good to walk again.   I could walk into the grocery store parking lot last night, without using a buggy as  a walker.  I could walk in without being out of breath.  I walked around in the store, shopping for things, and I walked out carrying two bags of groceries, without being out of breath.  This morning however that ability to walk was gone.  and the diarrhea happened last night.  so I do not what could be next.

good to hear from you again, and I apologize for not writing sooner

My mother cut this article out of the newspaper for me today. Sounds hopeful. Still cant believe its the first new drug in 50 years. What were they waiting for????

SLE Lupus, dignosed 13 years. I take Celebrex everyday, Inderal for the migrains, Plaquenil on and off ( I know thats BAD), Somo for muscle pain. Ativan for the wonderful anxiety, and ambiem as needed. And a Margharitta here an there.....

I don't think that they were waiting.  I think they tried hard to create a medicine just for Lupus.  according to my rheumy there are not any meds specifically for Lupus.  there are other meds for some other things that tend to work with lupus but do not know why.  He says you take a little of this and a little of that, and sometimes it works.

thank you for your response

I also got the e-mail from the LFA. I'm so thankful that they are actively researching. The email said that the people who received the drug (BenLysta) in the study were able to reduce their steroids. I wonder how long before it is marketable?! Judy

It sounds sort of like a biological. I hope that it works. I hope that it doesn't cause more problems, like many of the other drugs.

I tried to find the side effects of benslyda, but don't think that they printed them yet.  could be wrong.  I think that one of the posts about it said it might be ready in 2012 or the next year.
