HI all,

I have this MCTD,haven't posted in a while but need some advice. My skin hurts really bad. Feels worse than a sunburn, but I don't have a sunburn. I am wearing a sunblock SPF >50 and I don't know what else to do. I have not had this problem before. My skn itches, but it hurts to scratch and is holding on to heat if that makes sense.....

Hi twinkiet,

Are you taking any new medication? Some of these meds we take have strange side
effects. I know that a strange side effect of Methotrexate could be red and itchy skin.
Folic Acid could cause itching too.

Hope you find the cause.

I'm not on any meds at all right now. I stopped taking the anti-inflams because they were causing me to have intestinal problems which the drs now suspect is Crohns

Twinkiet, I suggest you call your doc and let them know what is going on. The
sooner you get in to see them , hopefully the sooner you get some relief.

Good Luck

Hi Twinkiet,

Do you have Fibromyalgia?  Painful, burning skin is a common symptom.  I had it yesterday actually.  Usually affects my arms.  It's awful.  Tell your rheumy about it for sure.

I can't get to my new rheumy until August 12th. My arms are what's bothering me the most. My skin feels hot and is irritated by the touch. Anything short of a cool shower is painful. My arms, shoulders and upper part of my back itch like I don't know what but I can't scratch it or that will cause more discomfort. I have moisterized my skin, but an aloe gel on it but nothing seems to help.

If I have fibromyalgia my old rheumy didn't tell me, which is why I am getting a new one. He said there was a bunch of diagnosis' he could make, but he wasn't going to yet for whatever reason.

Hi! Twink,
Can you try doing without the sunscreen? What you describe happens to me every time I try using sunblocks of any kind. And when I am even briefly in sunlight, direct or not. Check with your dr, to and after my bedtime shower with dove, I use hydrocortisone cream so I don't scratch in the night.
hugs,
suetoo

can I suggest buying a moisturizer that is cucumber based and keeping it in the fridge between applications? I know that sounds weird but cucumber is soothing and a friend did this for her grandmother when she was dying because her skin was in bad shape and caused pain and burning. I would make sure actual cucumber was used instead of just cucumber scent though. Oatmeal is also soothing to the skin. I would avoid the sun and sunscreen for a while as well because of the chemicals in sunscreen and how bad the sun can affect those with autoimmune issues.
