Hey all, sorry I haven't been around much latelyl.  I'll do better when my busy wedding season is over at the end of September.

I had a scare this morning.  I woke up feeling nauseated, diarrhea, itchy skin and a low-grade fever, hot and cold sweats.  those are the symptoms of a possible severe allergy to Plaquenil.  Some of you know my near- death med allergy that I had in '07.  Well, I feel very similar.

Hubby drove me to ER and over the course of about 3 hours, my symptoms improved.  The fever went away and so did the itching.  ER doc told me to NOT take my dose of Plaq tonight, just in case I was having a reaction; and to phone my rheumy tomorrow morning.

I still feel like total crap tonight.  The low-grade fever is back, it's stuck between 99.8 and 100.4.  Nausea, very sore muscles and an overall flu-like feeling is what I have right now.

I know that my symptoms could actually be my Lupus.  I guess I'm feeling more vulnerable because the medication allergy possibility is something I've dealt with before. My Lupus has been very quiet for quite some time now.

Has anyone else experienced these sort of symptoms starting on Plaquenil?  Oh, I've been on it for 2 weeks now.

Thanks everyone

Hi Ginny.

Sorry to hear the plaquenil is still making you so ill. I was only on plaquenil for 9 months.
and never had any bad side effects. My rheumy took me off to put me on methotrexate.

Prayers are on the way for a speedy recovery. Hope you are able to get a good night's
sleep. Keep us posted.

Hi Ginny,

I am sorry to hear you have been so sick! I really hope your rheumy will have some suggestions tomorrow. Until then, take good care of yourself! Hugs

Hey Ginny! I am so sorry. What did your doc think? Are you gonna stay on it or try something else? Do you know what the next step is if the plaquenil doesnt work out?

Do you know if your platlets have improved since you have been off the Imuran?( I think it was imuran)

Hey Ginny,

I have anew rheumy and he started me on plaquenil about two weeks ago as well. I have the nausea, diarhea, stomach cramps, I got a rash across the lower part of my back and a dry patch there as well. My scalp for some reason is itchy as hell. I had strept throat abut 3 weeks ago that came back last week. I was walking around with a fever, a little delirious and throat was so swollen I couldn't swallow. PCP said that the plaquenil makes you more prone to infection. But, I'm not feeling as fatiqued, but still very tired.
