I am unsure how many of you recall my current situation. Simplified version we have been fighting to get our son back because our house was dirty back in Feburary. We just found out last week we lost. They are terminating our parental rights for a dirty house that was only dirty for 2 weeks. We have the right to appeal but few win appeals apparently. We will be appealing.

We are no longer allowed to visit him but he is with my grandma for now. My aunt will try to adopt him if we lose the appeal.

Egads!  I didn't realize that a dirty house was against the law?  That doesn't sound right?  I'm praying that the situation works out for you and your son.

there is no law against a dirty house but somehow they found a loop hole in the law to allow them to terminate parental rights if you have a dirty house.

you need to find an attorney that specializes in this i know the CPS system all to well.. we were foster parents that how we got all 3 of our kids,..there was a time that our kids were taken from us because a little boy broke his leg in our care..he was 1 month old.. come to find out he had osteogeneisis imperfecta. we got our kids back 2 months later

anyhoos...fight fight fight dont give up on the fight..i cant see why they would terminate over a dirty house.. did you do classes or anything like they asked?? if your following a plan they shouldnt termkinate at all they normally give you a year.. so keep fighting

I did everything they asked and they still went after termination. In our county 1 in 5 kids goes home from what I have been able to find out. We had attorneys but we still lost the initial court battle and now have to appeal. It has been since February and they have been working against us the entire time. They told my husband if he divorced me they would drop the charges against him. He refused. We have 1 shot left and they are taking their time getting the paperwork we need to appeal to us.

I am in MI and there is a little more to the situation but it is so complicated I can't explain it all to anyone. Let's just say the judge threw out their other reason for taking him away and left the dirty house because they had photos. I so wish I hadn't let them in.

Redrose,
I'm glad you are fighting. I'm from Ohio and dislike Michigan, there is an attitude there to be sure amongst some Michiganders.  In GA where I live it is rural and extremely poor and this kind of thing happens sometimes, usually its really really bad, but I know someone who had their baby taken away because the mother had an open cereal box in the bedroom, she liked to munch on cereal. They were poor too. They like to take babies, they are easy to place permanently. They won't take teenagers no matter what is happening to them.

You have to fight tooth and nail and try to get media or someone else involved on your behalf.  You might call the Americans with Disabilities and find out whetheryou are being discriminated against. After all, medicare doesn't supply you with any type of household help when you are sick. I supposed social servces doesnt' care much about that.  I will pray for you. Somehow, I thought you were out of the woods on this.  Don't they realize what you went through to have this child? I hope you win your appeal. Maybe going to the press, youtube, something, would help, ask your lawyer first, I don't know.  Also, all the agencies like ADA and civil liberties and such and maybe write to some lawyers or professors or other people outspoken on this issue. Email me if you want.

I knew plenty of social workers that were messy, abusive, and drug addicts and bad alcoholics. Unfortunately, the best defense for them is agood offense.

Love, Marji
