I was prescribed methadone because vicodin has raised my liver count to over 300. I am alarmed by the warnings that come with it but can't stand the pain. I would appreciate anyone's comments.

Hey pebbles...I would recommend you going over to the chronic pain forum. I know that their are several people that have been prescribed Methadone for their pain and they might be able to share their experiences with you. Sorry I couldnt be of more help!!!

hey aimsgirl thanks for the sugestion. Do you deal with alot of pain with your lupus? I take ultram and naproxen along with lyrica & cyclobenzaprine. It just doesn't seem to do much for the swelling or the pain. I don't have insurance for a specialist.

I used to deal with severe pain due to lupus in my joints and muscles. I was taking Ultram, Darvocet, and Flexeril. And to be honest, they didnt help with the pain. The only thing that helped was Prednisone. Since Early september I have been on 60 mg of prednisone due to Lupus Nephritis and I could get hit by a semi truck and probably feel very little pain.
If you are having joint/muscle pain make sure you keep as warm as possible. Maybe you can use a heating blanket or heating pad. Also a warm bath with Epson Salt might take the edge off the pain just make sure you have someone around to help you get out incase you get too relaxed. I also purchased a pregnancy pillow and I molded it around me at night depending on where I was in the most pain. I know some more people will have some advice on little ways to relieve some pain. I hope you get some relief soon, I am so sorry you are in so much pain.

Do you have Lupus or MCTD/UCTD? If so are you on any meds besides the Lyrica? I know the Ultram, naproxen and cyclobenzaprine are for pain but anything to help keep things under control?

I was told it's SLE but the doctor thought lyrica might help with the nerve pain. I was on a 6 day run of prednisone and the two highest dose days I only had skin pain. But the joint pain and swelling was gone for the two days. The doctor is afraid to prescribe the prednisone and now with the liver count up she wants to wait. I did start hydroxychloroquine but it has only been a few days. I am glad to hear you have your pain managed. Thanks so much for the new ideas.
