My daughter who is in 5th grade is in Gifted and she has recently been given a project to work on... It must be like something you can do for your community or helping people ect.... She wants to do something that has to do with my condition, something like raise money or something like that,. I had looked up the Lupus walks in my area (Tampa Bay Florida) and there are none untill the spring, and the project is do in Jan. Anyone have any ideas or done something in the past like this? She has her heart set on doing something in relation to Lupus.... smilewinkgrin

Have you checked with the local chapter of the Lupus Society? They may have other things besides walks going on. You might have to call, I'm sure not everything is online

The local chapter list is here:

She could purchase some of the purple bracelet bands, sell them at a slight mark-up, and send the funds to the lupus org -- thats all I've got. Pitiful...

Oh, I know...she could set up her own walk, invite her friends to walk with her, and everyone get donations (maybe by mile) from their families & friends...which are passed along to the Lupus Foundation?

Lynnwood gave you a great link to check out...

I have sold the purple bracelets that say "someone you know has lupus" and have sold them to help pay my medical bills. Its usually a big hit. I think you can get the at the Lupus foundation of America website for a good price.

To add on the walk idea...Since its due January maybe you could do something like The Jinglebell walk for Lupus. Something fun. Ways you can get people to participate would be contact your local radio station, tv channels, and letters! I wish you luck :)!

How about a raffle? Or maybe she could suggest people donate to the lupus foundation instead of whatever they might normally do for the holidays? She is sweet to think of doing this!

aimsgirl16: What is the JingleWalk? I don't think I have ever heard of that?
hmmm so you can set up your own walk? Then you just mail the check into the Lupus foundation?

JingleWalk was just a suggestion of a name you could use for the walk since its the holidays. Something a little more fun named.

That is a good name! Its sad though, I just went through a horrid flare(not quite over yet, got better, getting worse again) and I have not had the energy(and in too much pain) to be able to help her put something together like this, the new mtx shot made me MIA the whole weekend, luckly she was over a friends house.....sad .   Sooooo since I am limited to what we are able to do, she is going to use all the gift cards she gets for Christmas and we are going to take them to buy pet food and supplies and bring them to the local SPCA. (her aunt is going to help her do this while I am at work) We have 3 adopted kitties from them...... She is a little disappointed but I told her that we can look foward to the Lupus walk in our area this spring...
