Hi. I have been diagnosed with lupus for about 6 yrs. Never in remission, but my day will come. Anyway, my reason for writing is that i havent slept more than 2-3 hrs per night for 4 days, despite doing a no-no and doubling up on meds. Mind just chatters away...wont shut up! Nothing i've tried has helped. been on 7-8 prescription meds, none worked. herbal remedies? tried alteril, worked for a time, but not now. meditation, check. exercise, check. warm showers, chamomile tea, check and check!

my friend recommended mellodyn for sleep and seredyn for anxiety. ordered today. anyone have any experience w/this that can help?

Thank you.

Hey Diana!

I have not had any experience with Mellodyn but I believe my boss takes it every night and it works good for her. Have you called your Rhuemy to let him/her know that you haven't got much sleep? Also, have you tried a muscle relaxer? A year or two ago I was in the same boat and my rhuemy put me on Flexeril and Ambien together and it did a great job!

I hope you can get some much needed rest and pray you will have a time were you lupus will quite down!

I haven't had experience with those, but I had some luck with melatonin-you can just buy it in the pharmacy. It worked for me and a lot of people I know, but I did get some really weird dreams from it...

Hi,
I have no experience with the meds you mentioned either.

I had a problem with my mind racing for years when I tried to go to sleep. Finally, my doctor put me on Xanax at bedtime and it works well for me.

I hope your doctor can find the right medicine for you and you will be able to sleep much better. I know it is a miserable feeling when you want to sleep and your brain is thinking of everything in the world to keep you awake. I hope you get relief soon. Take care and keep us udpated. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for all the caring and advice. I am going to see my dr Monday, and I am going to ask about xanax. A respondent/friend on this post recommended it. I researched a bit on the web and I'm interested. Last night, I actually got 8-1/2 glorious hours of sleep w/only my current meds. Hope it happens again tonight.

Thank you to all who gave me advice/encouragement. It is much appreciated.

Hi!

I know just how your mind feels, like your nerves are screaming and your thoughts are like a dervish in a whirley??yeah I vote call your dr. first, before you try anything else over the counter. I had good results from Flexeril and Ambien, too. But I have CNS lupus and often my screaming nerves and insomnia are warnings I am in a flare already or that one is coming soon....and for that, prednisone taper, and orders from the Dr. to call him. I have also found that Neurontin has helped my nerve pain immensely, too.

hugs,

suetoo

God knows, even if I don't....

Hi, everyone. Just an update. Dr. was sick, so I have to wait until 3/11 to see her. I'm in the process of changing rheumys, so I can't get an appt at the new one until the records from my old one get there...I hope they hurry.

I tried the seredyn and mellodyn on Monday, I slept great! I used them last night...slept 2 hrs...mind racing again...tired again.

Thanks for all the advice again...

I was able to visit my old rheumies office and get my records -- they are OUR records -- and then hand delivered them to the new dr. Worth a phone call to see if you can do that.

Cheers,

Thank you for the suggestion. My problem w/hand-delivering them is that my old rheumy is an hour away in one direction from my home and my new rheumy is 2 hrs from my home in a completely different direction.

I guess I'll just have to be patient.
