Went to the doc this morning cause last night the fevers were awful. Turns out I have blood in my urine again. This seems to be an ongoing problem. The doc prescribed Cipro again, but what else should he be checking?  This happens too often.confused

see a nephrologist. You need a kidney screening. Seriously do not wait on this and do not blow it off. I lost 2 family members to lupus related kidney issues and a friend recently almost lost her mom due to diabeties related issues. Please take care of yourself.

The blood in the urine, has it been confirmed that is deffinatly a UTI or along those lines?

Have you had your kidney function tested recently? I would deffianlty ask your doctor to do a urnialysis (if hasn't been done) and a basic metabolic blood test. If there are abnormalites in these tests, your doctor can refer you to a nephrologist or possibly a urologist depending on what the tests show.

Do you have any swelling/edema in the feet, ankles, legs, hands, or eyes? Any flank pain on your sides or lower back? Is your urine foamy? Do you use the bathroom at night more than 2 times? Do you run fevers every time you have blood in your urine?

Thanks for the advice. He has not confirmed it is a urinay tract infection, he said there were no casts, or white blood cells and he is sending it off for a culture (it was just a dipstick urine test). I get this about 3 times a year and always have the major body sweats with it and a headache and feel like Im dying. (ok not quite I guess, but bad). This was just my primary care doc. I see my rheumy March 1st and I think its time he runs some bloodwork again, like you said the kidney tests. My rheumy doesn't even know about my blood in the urine cause one doc doesn't seem to talk to the other doc, another all too common problem. Anyway I am taking 1, 1000mg pill a day for 3 days of Ciprofloxacin, hopefully it helps, it is very nauseating.  Sheesh, I've had enough of this!mad
