This is mostly just me COMPLAINING.

I went to the doctor yesterday for my yearly physical. My appointment was for 3, so I left work at 2:30 to get there on time. I got there and the receptionist told me it would be an hour wait because the doctor was behind schedule. Could they not have CALLED to tell me this so I could have worked a little longer?? I waited around and the nurse saw me to take my info after a half hour, and then half an hour after that I finally got in to see the doctor. I currently have a really bad shoulder injury that keeps me from working quite a bit, so I brought papers for him to fill out so I can qualify for FMLA (Family & Medical Leave Act) so I can go home early sometimes without being fired. He didn't want to fill them out since he's not an orthopedist. He's the one that told me to see the orthopedist in the first place, so he knows what kind of injury I have. What a big help. I then told him that it was time for my tetanus shot again, so he said he'd have his wife (a nurse) give it to me before I left. He refilled my prescriptions, and then left the room. I waited for ten more minutes, and then I kept hearing the receptionist say to the nurse that she needed to give me my tetanus shot. She continued roaming around laughing and making casual talk with everyone while I waited for ten MORE minutes. Now I'd been there for almost TWO HOURS. She FINALLY brought in the shot for me, and I noticed it said H1N1 on the package label. UHHH?? mad I asked her what that was and she said it was the H1N1 vaccine, and I told her that if she were to give me that vaccine I would get very sick since I'm taking medicine to suppress my immune system. She actually laughed and went to get the actual shot I needed. Then she took ten more minutes to get me some paperwork I didn't need. I walked out of the office two hours later extremely upset. smhair

Worst office visit ever. I'm so tired of going to doctors and getting the runaround. I have to go back to the rheumatologist in 2 weeks after having blood-work done to see if he can properly diagnose me with Lupus, and I'm worried he's going to change his mind and HE won't sign the FMLA papers for me either since the Lupus makes me so tired I can't work sometimes. I also went to the orthopedist's office yesterday to give them the papers, and they have to fax them over to the other office and blah blah blah. Maybe HE won't fill them out either and I'll be totally screwed. cry

Anyway, sorry for the little b*tchfest. Just wanted to get all that off my chest. I'm sure you guys understand all the running around and how tiring it is. All I do now is worry, worry, worry. This disease is literally ruining my life. shakehead

Dear Dinosaur!!
I know exactly how you feel.  The only dr. that I have that doesn't keep me waiting for real long is my rheumatologist.  Everytime I go to my pcp it's about an hour and a half in the waiting room at least before I get into see him.  I just want to send them a bill for MY TIME!! The problem is that if you get a good doctor you don't want to lose them so you have to put up with the waiting process.  Good Luck with it all!!

I always have to wait for my rheumy but don't mind because I know she will spend at least an hour with me if needed, which it always needed!

I do hope your future appointments go better than this one! Sending hugs and prayers your way!

I wasn't aware that people taking immunosuppressants should not take the H1N1 shot. My rheumy had his nurse give me one while I was taking prednisone and Arava. I would have thought just the opposite, that it would have been more dangerous for me to get the virus itself.
