When I went to see the rheumy on 050410 he wrote : I think she probably does have SLE with a positive ana and positive Anti-DNA. May consider skin biopsy. She also has livedo type rash over the lower extremities. When I went to my PCP physician on 042610 I was having a major flare and they drew my blood. My ANA was positive and my anti dna ds was 187 normal 0-9 and my rheumatoid antibody was positive. Rheumatologist redrew my labs on 050410 I was feeling a 1,000 times better that day and I wasn't on medication the day these labs were drawn. I started my meds the next day

My lab results are now

ANA+RA is negative

RA Latex Turbid 7.5 normal 0.0-13.9

CCP antibodies IgG/IgA  7 normal 0-19

cryglobulin, Q1, serum, rlfx none detected at 72 hours

creactive protein 0.9 normal 0.0-4.9

No lupus anticoagulant detected

anticardiolipin Ab, IgG, QN 11H indeterminate 11-19

anticardiolipin Ab, IgM, Qn 12H indeterinate 10-19

complement c3 serum 131 normal 90-180

alt 48H normal 0-40

Overall I think my lab results look good. Can I still be diagnosed with lupus with a positive then a negative ANA, negative RF and now negative Anti DNA DS? Do the levels fluctuate with a flare the go back down when the flare subsides?

All the levels fluctuate, and sometimes flare doesn't even matter. I was on imuran for 3 months, made my ANA go negative, but my RA stayed positive, go figure. Some people are diagnosed with totally negative labs, based purely on symptoms. Check out the 11 criteria in the Lupus Resources section in the begining of this section. It's a big help. Good Luck to you.
