Have any of you folks been diagnosed with tendonitis? According to my dr, I have it all over my body. I find it very confusing and need to ask more questions. My rheumy is being very vague about it and I need to figure out who else to see.

The definition of tendinitis is basically "inflammation of the tendon"....I thought the reason we Lupies hurt in the first place was inflammation. It is generally thought of as an overuse issue. But if you take anti-inflammatories for Lupus, how would you know when to stop? Normal pain is distorted w/anti-inflammation meds. The only treatment I find is "stop what you are doing", (Stop using my toes, ankles, knee, back, elbow and hands? Can't imagine what that would look like.), "ice massage", and "take anti-inflammatory".

Have any of you stumbled across this issue? What dr diagnosed it, what dr treated it? Did you eventually heal or is it a continuing issue?

I could use some help on this one!
Thanks,

I currently have tendonitis in left shoulder (don't remember the technical name describing the specific tendon) - last spring it was bursitis in both hips - which rheumy treated with steroid injections, and they provided some extended relief, but it hasn't been a complete cure.  Rheumy also offered to inject the shoulder in October - but I declined, hoping to resolve it with heat and stretching and rest, which is not happening.  And I am losing more ROM, so I'll have to do something soon.

Now it feels like I have costochondritis again - probably from trying to exercise with the airdyne bike and using my arms after an extended period of not exercising due to fatigue and pain problems.  More tendonitis?

Lynnwood, the places you describe are also "jointed" areas - have you had any RA labs lately?  I don't get hot red joints joints often, and when I do they are generally in fingers and toes -  but I do get warmth in painful areas - sometimes it's in the joint, but often it's over muscle and tendon.  RA labs are mildly positive now - they've been negative for 3 yrs prior.

I am as confused as you are as to what is behind all the tendonitis....my rheumie is rather vague about it as well.  I have assumed it's just a manifestation of inflammation, a it seems to be too widespread to be "over-use".  If I was a mail carrier, maybe......

Anyway - you've mentioned tapering your Pred, and your areas sound pretty widespread.....could it be an inflammatory reaction to the taper? Just a thought.

Thanks for the ideas, Lucy.

Blood hasn't shown inflammatory markers for quiet a while - last draw was in Dec, I think. Probably do need a fresh one.

Right now am treating with OTC NSAID's (Ibuprofen) .. don't want to up my prednisone, it feels like that just covers the problem rather than being a solution.

We'll see if I can get the rhuemy to be less vague...I have a feeling that won't happen.

I had 2 episodes of posterior-tibial left ft tendonitis with constriction of achilles. Rheumy did not say this was lupus-related. went to an orthopedic and had PT, walking boot x 6 weeks.
