Lupus is a chronic, inflammatory, autoimmune disease which causes inflammation in various parts of the body such as skin, joints, kidneys, heart, etc. Here the body's immune system attacks its own cells and tissues resulting in symptoms such as inflammation, swelling, damage to joints, skin, kidneys, heart and lungs.

A butterfly-shaped rash on the face, which covers the cheeks and bridge of the nose is a classic symptom of lupus. Other manifestations depend upon the system involved. Lupus can occur at any age and is more common in women.

Allopathic treatment for Lupus include Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) and Corticosteroids. They do not cure Lupus but are merely a way of suppressing symptoms.

Combination of Ayurvedic herbs and Homoeopathic remedies gives good results. Besides giving symptomatic relief these remedies (ayurvedic herbs and resonance homoeopathy) aims at teaching your immune system how to stop attacking your own tissues.

Some of the frequently used remedies are Hyperisince formula, Immunity CM and OM28 Lupease formula. These remedies work on our body by using ingredients with natural corticosteroids properties to relieve pain and inflammation during acute flare ups and helps to strengthen the connective tissues, tendons, bones and joints.

I just want you to release what exactly you could be doing to your body by avoiding treatments to supress your immune system as your doctor has requested. I was a fan of trying "natural" remedies. You want to know where that got me? I am now 24 years old on dialysis from kidney failure and have lesions on my brain from LUPUS inflammation. Don't be scared of a few pills that will keep you away from the path I have had no choice to take. I don't look for simpathy, I am looking to share how serious this disease really is and sometimes natural just doesnt cut it.

Of course, you should always talk to your doctors about any additon or change to RX's or over the counter attempts at curing a uncuarable disease...

Im a 37 y/o female with SLE who have been on steroids consistently since my 1996 diagnosis. Across the last 3yrs, I have been looking for natural/holistic remedies so that i can stop taking the steroids. On occation I've used plaquenil & imuran but i limit those as much as possible d2 the side affects. 10yrs after using the steroids, i began to have hip pain. I have since had both hips replaced, necrosis in both shoulders limiting range of motion & glaucoma & small cataract in Rt eye...from medicine! It took me a while to learn but I am now on the alternative approach and trying to find something that works.

It amazes me, in reading some of the postings in the Crohn's blog, where some were totally anti-natural and very adamate about it and promoting modern medicine. Although it, modern meds, can be a life saver, the fact that they have so many disclaimers & small print has to be a clue that it can't be used long term. Maybe it's their misery that drives them to be so negative!

We should all know that mod. meds. only treat the symptom & not hte cause. I am considering the Digestacure. I'll spend the $159/mo for 3mos to see if it works. It cheaper having another hospital stay b/c i have to get somthing else removed/replaced.

I have tried other things and have gotten good results for ameliorating the symptoms, but in the past $ to afford the supplements over several months have proven to be challenging. Consistency is key. Once I changed my diet noticeable improvements to lethargy, low grade fevers and some joint pain were reduced. I've also tried liquid oxygen b/c the steroids gave me the white tongue effect.(caused by the steroids killing off the good bacteria in my gut which is displayed in the tongue) This helps, but you have to be consistent.

Hi there,  I understand where you are coming from.  My first reaction to this dz was denial.  I had the flu or ...whatever I could muster up.  HOWEVER once this dz begins affecting your kidneys or perhaps other vital organs, its really hard to stop it.  Amy is right about what she says.
I would like to add that after 6+ yrs of this and debilitating pain that destroyed my career and left me bedridden for yrs, I did recently turn to Eastern Medicine practices...out of curiosity really....and there are several books written by a Dr. Sha that is a western trained MD as well as Eastern...and you know what? For the first time in nearly 7 yrs I am OFF pain meds, immune suppressants and on a tapering small dose of prednisone.  I have realized that FOR ME ...I had it in me, that I was strong enough and educated enough (yes,..I am a medical professional - Pharm.D- though I offer no direct advice as per rules) to make decisions WITH the blessing of my MDs.
Ive been practicing Tai Chi, meditation and Dr. Sha's books ...and I am in complete remission for the first time ever.  My message to you is to NOT give up hope, pray for your soul to heal yourself, have graditude for what health you DO have and have a partnership with your Physician.  They are there to help us...yes...but sometimes we must help ourselves too.
Pain< esp chronic pain changes the way we reason, think, respond.
I decided 2 wks ago that I was going to make an...agreement with God (or the Divine, Allah, Powers that be..whatever you call what I call God) - I asked that God release me from the constant pain and misery NOT FOR ME ...but so that I might serve Him/humanity in whichever way necessary.  I don't care anymore about material belongings, social status, etc.(not that i have in these last several yrs anyhow!)  I am here to make the world a better place.  I dont know what my mission is yet...but I have one< i do know this!  And BOOM! I WAS released fro the pain.  Coincidental?  i dont believe so.  It took me 7 yrs to get the BIG PICTURE.  I hope it doesnt take you as long.  Love and healing to you!
Angelina.

Clearly, you must keep in contact with your Dr. when taking alternative meds. If he/she isn't game for helping you work with both (using Rx in conjunction with natural alternatives)you need to find another Dr that will work with you on what your plans are. There are ways to ween yourself off Rx's and still do the alternative meds.

Rx can be great but the long term effects exist! Research on your own, find a Dr that is into alternative treatments. Unfortunately Amer Dr's don't believe in and aren't taught about this stuff but you have to be an advocate for yourself!

I would never suggest stopping the Med Dr's Rx's on your own. I've tried it and got myself into trouble. But there's a way to wean off safely. Remember, MEd DR's only treat symptoms NOT causes!

There are no natural cures (or cures of any kind) or even treatments/supplements that have been shown to be effective in controlling lupus.  Suppression meds often have serious side effects but not for all patients.  It is important if you have been diagnosed with lupus to get your immune system under control to reduce or eliminate flares.  The longer you go through the cycle of flare and temporary remission the more difficult it is to control an immune system.  Some patients might get away taking only natural treatments if they have a mild case and it does not get worse but many cases of lupus get worse and some are life threatening.

The idea that natural treatments are completely safe is just not true.  These substances are often untested and unregulated.  You do not know what you are really taking.  If they were subjected to the same rigorous standards as drugs there would be many caveats and warnings for them as well.  After all, they are medicines and can cause interactions or reactions just like drugs, biologics, and treatments like ivig.

Having said that, some supplements or diets can complement treatments for lupus but they are not a primary or controlling treatment.  Always talk to your doctor before taking anything.

okay here is what works for me Apis Mel Homeopathic for iritability
Belladona for the headaches
Ginger and Ginseng* for Warmth to Spleen function ( OMD idea about lupus)
many other chinese herbs see an omd
REST no cafeine to boost depleted energy
realization that ache in back is adrenals warning you to rest. so resting.
Lupus is the autoimmune but why? the adrenals are depleted and so is the spleen. the answer is to replenish the spleen and adrenals
I have been doing all this for a year and am symptom free except for tiredness which i treat with REST
* I dont use ginseng during flare ups as it helps support the immune function. but helps body strengthen when not in flare up
