Hello everyone! My name is Alice and I was diagnosed with lupus this past April, so it hasn't been too long since I've started out on this crazy lupus journey. I'm currently on 300mg plaquenil daily, 750 mg cellcept twice daily, 5 mg prednisone, and vitamin D3 and calcium supplements. When I onsetted, I mainly had a ton of swelling going on (face, stomach, lung) and joint pain, so much so that I was hospitalized and quickly diagnosed.

I was planning on joining this forum at some point, but took the leap today because I've been having really intense symptoms lately. Within the past week, I've had really bad nausea (but not to the point of vomiting yet), mucous-y diarrhea that's been on and off, and general tiredness. I did recently taper my prednisone from 7.5 mg daily to 5 mg daily but I've never had a problem with tapering before. The nausea is the worst during the afternoon after lunch and it's been so bad I haven't been able to leave my house for the past 4 days. Eating is really difficult and I just sit around for hours praying that I won't throw up. Does anyone have any suggestions for what it may be? Or any advice on how to cope? It's been quite tough adjusting to all the new things that come along with lupus... Thanks in advance!!

The one thing about Lupus is that nothing is ever the same!

Just because you could taper off the prednisone before doesn't mean you can this time, Lupus may be "acting out" in a different way than before.

My suggestion would be to go back to the 7.5 daily - of course, with your Dr's full knowledge and permission.

If you haven't already contacted your Dr about the change in your symptoms, especially if you've not had the nausea/diarrhea before, you really should do so asap.

Keep us posted, and make sure to eat when you take your meds -- isn't Cellcept one of those you need to take with food? Not having enough in your stomach with some of these drugs can be a big issue.

Thank you for the suggestion! I'm actually seeing my rheumatologist this Friday so I'm hoping he can either tell me what's up or change my meds to make me feel better....

My doctor told me to take Cellcept on an empty stomach, which I do at night, but in the morning (especially in the summer), I don't wake up early enough to take it an hour before I eat. I usually try to take all my other medicines with some food though.

Can you get nausea often, especially after I eat. I'm not on any meds because I haven't been able to find a decent rheumy that takes my insurance.
Is nausea a part of Lupus??

Country Lupie,

Some of us find that we have sensitive stomachs as a part of our disease. I know I've had "dumping issues" with my Lupus, but not so much in the way of nausea. It just depends on how your disease is acting.

I hope you can find a rheumy soon.
