Hope everyone is well. Quick question. My rheumotogist had his nurse call with blood work results. I go every few months to check liver. She said my liver and red blood cells were high. He wants me to recheck in a week. Why would they be high? Why wait a week?

Thanks in advance

They could be high from foods, infections, inflammations, medications, Lupus, or a number of other things. They wait a week to see if whatever made them high is an intermittent or temporary situation that resolves on it's own. If they are still high they'll probably want to do more digging to figure out what's going on.

Keep breathing and don't worry about it. Make sure you are drinking enough water and not getting dehydrated, but other than that, I'd just carry on like usual. Probably and hopefully nothing!

Keep us posted!

I concure with Lynnwood, there are a number of reasons. Tylenol itself can raise your liver enzymes. I could not tolerate Imuran and had to have labs drawn often when on Methotrexate because of high liver enzymes. Don't panic, if it is caused by food, medication or something of that nature your counts can easily come back down by removing the culprit. As Lynnwood said keep hydrated so as to flush the toxins from your body.

Hugs,
Melissa

I just got my blood work results back. My liver count is still high and my white blood cells are low. Rheumotogist wants me to stop the sulfasalazine for 2 weeks and recheck. I am so bummed. They said I can take over the counter stuff for pain. I feel like I am getting nowhere fast.

Thanks for listening.

I hope the doctor finds a new solution for you.

My statin drug sent my liver enzymes through the roof. I'm on a new one to see if it helps.
