is anyone else dealing with lupus related eye problems?MY eyeball and socket hurt all the time, even the underside of the brow bone feels like it has been beat to crap! I know there is nerve damage and rim ulcers and this one stumped the doctors for 3 years-it is so nice the opthemologists receptionist is on the ball, every time I managed to nail down an appointment date, she called to rebook...I want to be patient, but finally got angry and said it was time to ''bump'' some one else,it takes MONTHS to even get an appointment with this guy,but after 5 calls of''gee,I'm sorry, the doctor is in surgery, out of town,on holidays,blah,blah,blah,...we need to reschedule ...'' My lenses were needing to be changed 3x in less than a year-$455(progressives) for the lenses each time-we are only covered 1x each 2yrs..I haven't taken the 2 additional changes since this fall-total of 5 changes in just under 2yrs(in april)...and what this chick figures this doesn't warrant an appointment that sticks?!!!
SORRY'SORRY'SORRY!!! I didn't mean to ramble,I'm frustrated and scared,I was told that it is not ''common'' for lupus to affect the eyes and am finding it hard to believe, there is no way I am the only one that has such problems, does anyone know what could bring me relief?
THIS appointment is April 6th, I'm probably the most scared because I understand there is little tissue that separates the eye and the brain,,my mom lost an eye years ago and that's what they told her,am I just freaking out because of the pain? Or are they schmucks?

Hi Monte,

I hope you get some answers when you see the eye doc. I have some eye pain, redness and infections from Sjogren's, but not like you described. I hope its nothing serious and can be easily treated. It sounds like you need some relief very soon. Let us know what you find out and take care. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Never have had what you are describing but my eyes constantly feel dry and burning.  I also suffer from ocular migraines since December or so.  I hope you feel better soon.  I would get an appointment with your primary doctor.  That is who I went to and she was able to diagnose the problems and give me some eye meds to use.

I know the dry eyes are able to be helped with many types of drops, the ocular migraines you mentioned ,is that the pain behind the eye? I have that but even my doctor realizes she has nothing left to give me,I have tried 17 different things in the past 3 years, let's hope the opthemologist has something new-it is lupus that affects that eye,so it could be tricky. The dry burning was a symptom several years ago so keep on top of it,hope you are doing well,I noticed you are fairly new,WELCOME! I would like to get to know better so I hope to meet up with you again, thanks for your response!

Hi Montecarlo,
I have had pain just below my eye brow in my eye socket. It almost feels like a headache sometimes but it is definately in the eye socket. Sometimes it is hard to look around, like my eyes are tired and I actually have to lift my eyebrows up to keep my eyes open. It doesn't sound exactly the same as what you are experiencing but I thought I'd give you my experience so you can compare. I hope you find releif soon. I posted a thread about the eyes twitching back and forth too! Don't know what that's all about. Maybe you can give me your input on that. There seems to be so many strange things that happen with Lupus that it's hard to go over every symptom. I am learning this as time goes by, but new symptoms appear all the time. Sometimes we just need to address the most serious ones! God bless,
Jyllian

Re: Eye stress

It helps to avoid: light, such as light from cmptr or tv, from houselights or store lights, esp. floursecent, avoid sunlight, don't read or do too much fine work - use OTC saline eyedrops (NOT red-out stuff) -- make sure you aren't getting dehydrated....get enough sleep

thanks for the replies,I was for warned about ''freezing the eye for injections''OMG! are they kidding how do I lay still with a needle coming at my eye!!! has anyone else heard of this? I'm almost too scared to go-what they gonna DO? I need someone to drive me home after-sounds yucy to me! saline didn't help, the eye isn't always dry,it's the mini-rim ulcers etc, eyelashes get infected looking and fall out or have several in one follicle
after the last round of med-do ya think I can grow that on my head though!LOL! ILAM (I LAUGH AT ME!) love ya!

You are so cute. I posted a reply on the eye twiching thread but I didn't know what OMG is. I do get eye ulcers also by the way and have had eye lashes fall out and more than one per follicle too! I always thought that was just normal though! I have had many needles in my eyes though and all you do is focus on something in the backround, like the Dr's. face. I dont remember any freezing though. But you probably WILL need someone to drive you home. I always do after eye exams. I can't see well as it is and after all the things they do, it's impossible to drive in L.A. traffic after being dialated or shot with a needle. It hurts but not too bad. It sounds worse than it is. It's just like taking blood. It hurts a little but nothing you can't handle. I assume you have a high tolerence for pain like most of us Lupies do. So if youre like me, you'll hang tough. Good luck. I would really like to know how your appointment goes. Really. I'm not just saying that. I will be thinking about you and hoping everything goes well for you. Till then....Jyllian

i have eye pain too, as if i've been beaten! the socket around my eye and actual eyes. are you eyes blood shot as well? i look like i have terrible allergies or a drug habit all the time...but they aren't dry. i've read that this can happen with lupus. the rhumey didn't seem to think it was anything...to which i say "my eyes HURTING isn't anything" (read: bite me)

I started having eye pain around the sockets, under the brow of both eyes. It's mostly when touched, even slightly. ( Checking into this problem with an Opthamologist resulted in the discovery of a benign brain tumor that has nothing to do with the eye pain.) Now that I am looking at a possible Lupus diagnosis I am starting to examine all possible symptoms over the last few years. I all have also started having "aura's" in my vision that usually precede 1 to 2 day migranes. Anyone have this Aura issue?
