Lupus is prone to get yeast infection, but I think it is not caused by Lupus. We are easy to get yeast, according to my gyno. I used to always have it. It is pretty irritating. I saw a gyno in Hk and he gave me, I think, is hydrocoritisone cream?? (not sure, for it's few years ago). He also told me to wear cotton underwear, avoid wearing jeans, and don't use those cleanser that especially for vaginal. It is best to just use water. Don't use panttie liner in a normal day. Also, no bath because it is easy to get bacterias unless you really really clean it thoroughly. Do not worry! I had on and off for a year or two, and now I do not have it anymore. I know how frustrating and irritated it is.

Hi Kookla:

I'm sorry to hear that you're having troubles with yeast infections. Have you been sick lately that you required a antibiotic to treat your infection. It's very very common to get a yeast infections if you take any antibiotics. The doctor can give you a pill called diflucan and it will clear the infection right. Or you can go to the drug store and purchase a monastat kit. They have different options of a 1, 3, 5, and 7 day treatment. It's a cream that you'll insert into the vagina. If you're having terrible pain or any other odd symptoms, give your gyno a call. Hope it gets cleared up quickly for you.

Love,
Barb

Kookla,

Yes, I have yeast infections constantly.  My GI, Rheumy and OB/Gyn all agree it is the Auto Immune Diseases that brings them on also the drugs that we take to supress the disease - especially the Prednisone, Immuran and like drugs.

These drugs tend to kill off the good "bacteria" and let the yeast grow out of control.  If the good bacterial continously gets killed, the yeast just constantly win and there your yeast infections just keep coming.

I take TONS of probiotics to counter the effect along with an occasional prescrip. of Diflucan and garlic when needed to kill the overgrowth.

I am finally starting to get ahead of the yeast infections with the help of my Gyno.  He has been wonderful at taking "swabs" to make sure we are using the right prescription to help - i.e. Diflucan, Nystan, or even Antibiotics for Bacterial Vaginitus.

He has also had me cut out sugers, and "processed" flour.  It has made a wonderful difference along with a high count Probiotic.  I also don't have the option of OTC creams (i.e. Monistat or generics) becuase there is a common ingredient in all of them that I am allergic to - I learned the hard way by getting an even more painful rash and infection down there!!

Hopefully this helps!

I was having problems with recurrent (constant) vaginal and oral (thrush) yeast infections. My dr finally put me on Nystan, which is a systemic yeast treatment. I take it am & pm, and haven't had any more problems! Thank goodness!

I was told by my doctor that it was from the prednisone-it was a nightmare! It was during that they finally told me-nothing like a helpful warning! anyone else told this by the doc ? I thought it was a vaginal flare,it lasted about 2 wks. Another friend of mine (male) said he heard it was common to have yeast infections while on certain medications- I have know idea how accurate the info is,let me know if the doctor was out to lunch, she keeps saying''oh,that's right,I was meaning to call you'' ,she is very pregnant so I chalk it up to the pregnancy brain fog! (I had it too-LOL)
Take care, hope this one is figured out-like woman don't have enough already with periods,pregnancy,birth,breastfeeding,yadda,yadda-we have to have yeast infections as well?! Crystal

Another comment on fungal infections...

This past summer I developed a painful, itchy red rash with bright red spots under my breasts and on my abdomen. I was having periodic sweats from Prednisone and no matter how much cornstarch I used to keep the area dry, I still had problems.

My doctor prescribed a nystatin powder that I used along with cornstarch, and it eliminated the rash and kept it from coming back. With the start of warmer weather, I thought it might be a good time to mention this. It's easy to treat, but I had no idea what it was at the time.

Yes. I had one time that had all the white stuff, but no itch at all. I would see the gyno; he/she would probably prescribed you medication to kill them.

It is absolutely possible to have a yeast infection or Bacterial Vaginitus with no itching, just discharge.  I would go to the gyno or your family dr and have a swab taken so they can prescribe the right thing - you don't want to let it get out of control!

Hi all, I'm the Queen of Yeast infections and BV. I took the probiotics, did every yeast infections treatment and took BV meds for months. Nothing ever worked.
I then took boric acid suppositories and bang, never got another yeast infection or BV again. I did it the first time for 5 days, then once a month. I also put one in after sex.
Try it, it really does work!

where do you get boric acid suppositories? I get yeast or bv all the time. My doc doesn't seem to think that its related to my lupus but he also admits that he doesn't know much about lupus either. SO, I need help.

Yeah, autoimmune diseases of all sorts make us more prone to yeast infections.  It's a strange connection.  I've also heard that the boric acid suppositories work well.

I am another one who takes probiotics (acidophilus) capsules daily.  It really keeps the fungus at bay.  I haven't had a yeast infection in a really long time.  I contribute that to the probiotics and limiting my sugar and yeast (bread) intake.

Very valid question Steph!  Glad you brought it up.

I'm like Lynnwood, I have a bottle of nystatin in my fridge. Do you get sores in your mouth too? that's called thrush. It's also yeast infection. with all the medicine we take I have learned that nothing surprises me. Our bodies are so wacked out. Talk to your doctor maybe he can put you on a regiment of nystation to keep it cleared up. or give you somthing else.
let us know because trust me this is not a strange conversation and many of us have the same problem

I am in TROUBLE, was gona post under 'new topic' but I saw this thread.
Mouth AGONY, tongue cracked and sore.
I am on antibiotics because I developed a peridontal abscess. I am on a 'list' to have my gum disease treated. Been on it for at least 3months. A private dentist drained the abscess, but my gums are agony, I have trush in my mouth and I have been downing probiotics and cut out coffee, tea, bread and sugar, bar a tiny bit of the latter sometimes for the past week.
Cutting out the above has also helped the crohns.
Oh I am detracortril, a 'heavy steroid' but I am coming down off it now and on 10mg daily until next thursday and then 5mg daily.

This is to Meph    I have the same problem as you do under the breast. I now use just plain deodorant. I now have no more problems and I am a very big girl up top I even had very bad problem with odor and itching. I was told the cornstarch may not be helping but making it worse.

Hi Ann . . . sorry you are having such trouble with your mouth. Sounds aweful. There was a post about a month or so back that had LOTS of response to trouble with the mouth sores. I'm sorry I don't remember who started it, but you can look back through . . . it would be well worth the effort . . .there have been several topics like this, but the one was pretty helpful. If I do find it, I'll bump it back up for you. . . . blessings!

Tink and Meph . . . Have you ever tried Tinactin under your arms and breasts?? It is a fungal foot spray or powder and it works really fast on this type of skin problem. I have also had problems in skin folds (ouch) . . . Dial soap is the only soap I'll use as it really helps keep this kind of stuff under control.

Blessings!
