             World Lupus Day!!

                           May 10th 2007

What are you going to do that day????

                    IDEAS:

Do a walk for the cause?
Write a letter to your congressman?
Wear something that shows you are a fighter and survivor of Lupus?
Give someone a hug that has Lupus?
Write to Dr. Phil and tell him the truth about Lupus?
Tell the Moderators here how great they are?
Take a quiet walk by yourself and listen to the new Spring?
Take a nap, eat some chocolate and read a good book (not about Lupus)?

However you celebrate being a fighter make it a great day!

I like your ideas.. especially the one about chocolate!!

My DH works for a very large company. In his office building they have 3800 employees. They often have days of recognition for charities. DH is going to talk to the HR department about making May 10th a lupus charity day. On charity days each employee pays 1.00 to wear jeans for the day (all proceeds then go to the charity). They also either wear a sticker with the charity name or a ribbon or pin. It is sort of late notice but hopefully they can coordinate it on time! I think 3800.00 would be a wonderful donation to my local lupus chapter and it may bring some awareness.

After a lot of thought. I am going to sign up for a walk for the cause for Lupus, get involved with a support group chapter, tell the moderators how awsome they are, take a walk, sit out and listen to the birds sing, get hugs from my family, cook a delicious dinner and make a toast, and finally EAT SOME CHOCOLATE. Then sleep for 2 days. LOL

I would love to write a letter to Dr. Phil and a congressman but I am not exactly sure how. I still need to think about that.

I want to start making a difference. Even if it's a small one.

Thanks for the information and the ideas Kitty. I like how you incorporated so many of your ideas into your day on May 10th - you are ambitious. Right now I'm sifting through my brain fog trying to figure out what I might do. At least I have some time to decide, lol.

Thanks again and take care

Hello everyone,

Would someone mind telling me what happened with Dr. Phil ?  I have noticed references to him and lupus before but never asked.

Thanks

goldenwings  :-)

goldenwings, I bumped up the topic regarding the mis-information Dr. Phil gave everyone regarding lupus.

Hi Kitty.  These are great ideas and thanks for the reminder that May 10 is world lupus day.  For those in the Atlanta area on May 5th, the Lupus Foundation of America and Acteva pharmaceuticals are sponsoring a free lupus patient education program on "State of the Art Approaches from the Experts."  It will be held at the Woodruff Arts Center.  To register and for info go to www.acteva.com/go/LupusEducation.  This program is also being offered in other cities on various dates so others may want to check the link.  Hopefully it will not be just one big advertisement for pharmaceuticals.

Hi Razor:

The color for lupus is purple and I believe that you can get a purple braclet for your arm at the www.lupus.org site. I think they are $1.00 a braclet. I bought 20 and passed them out to my family to wear on my behalf. Hope that helps you some.

Take care,
Barbara

Yeah, I was passing them out, too, but then I noticed no-one was wearing them. (Not even me!)
At least my donation went to a good cause!
