Sorry I haven't been on in awhile.  I've been so busy with work and Blaze being gone overseas that I'm overwhelmed.  I need so help though.  I had one of the worst flare ups I have ever had last week where it felt like both the lups and fibro flared up together.  I took some time off work since I looked like death hung over and have been off work since Saturday and go back Wednesday.  I feel like I am out of the flare bbut I'm still having some problems.  I don't know if this is due to stress or if I should be concerned.  Within the last couple weeks or so, I've been having really bad headaches off and on that just come and go real quick.  Sometimes they like to stick around for awhile and some just are there for a few minutes and go away.  I also noticed that when I was in the flare up, there were times I couldn't comprehend anything.  One night I was helping my mom with dinner and I was making two boxes of something and I just stared at them and then asked her, "If one requires 2 cups and the other requires 2 cups, how much is that?"  She told me and I just stared at her unable to comprehend it or figure out how to measure out 4 cups.  There are times where I am real sharp and then there are times where I feel like someone has beat me with a baseball bat and I can't comprehend anything like I am always in a fog.  I felt like a moron this afternoon talking to the lady at my insurance company and I couldn't  remember my SSN and then couldn't figure out and comprehend whjere my ID number was on my card and it was right there in front of me.  I just feel like I haven't been myself.  I am so forgetful and my short term memory is down the drain.  I've experienced the fog and short term memory loss before but not this bad.  Do I go to my rheumy or to my regular dr about all this? ANy help would be very much appreciated.  And thank you ahead of time.

Other thing I forgot to add is that I go into episodes where I just stare blank at something for about 5 minutes and then snap out of it as if nothing happened.

Marianne, you are going through a rough time. I get brain fog as well, and even at age 58, when most of my friends are starting to have senior moments, it drives me crazy. I can't imagine what you go through at 21. I would recommend that you discuss this with your rheumy. This may or may not be appropriate for you, but when my rheumy started me on 2000mg CellCept my mind cleared up a bit. I don't hesitate to talk to my rheumy about anything. I always go to the doctor armed with questions. I hope things get better for you. Congrats on your upcomming wedding!

The kind of cognitive dysfunction you are referring to is often found in lupus. Some people have been helped out of it by prednisone or Imuran -- but what works for me is Cellcept!

I had been off work due to not thinking well for a couple of years, but Cellcept has given me back my brain as well as my worklife.

Definitely talk to your rhuemy asap -- if he's not interested, find another rhuemy!

Marianne, I'm sorry you are going through such a rough time with your health. I agree with Pat about calling your rheumy regarding the severe brain fog and cognitive problems., since a lot of times these problems are related to lupus The rheumy should know whether you might need to be referred to a neurologist for any testing.

Hang in there and please keep us updated when you are feeling up to it.

Take care

This is a common symptom of lupus, other diseases and some meds but, needs to be checked out. Hang in there sweetie and let us know what you find out. I miss chatting with you!! You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Blaze is still over in Iraq and will be there until next March or April so the wedding was moved from this October to April 2008, to we don't know when.  I plan on making a doctor's appt tomorrow with my rhuemy.
